I posted this in a thread asking about PWS but I figured I'd just make my own thread and see what y'all thought. Let me start by saying I loved my PWS Mk114 and the first 3k rounds through it were mostly trouble free; except with steel cases. Steel always stuck in the chamber. PWS ended up honing the chamber and I only had 20rds of Wolf to test afterwards but it all shucked out. Up until recently the customer service was great. Sometimes rifles have problems but if the company stands behind the product and fixes it i can handle a couple isolated problems. EDIT: I also had to have a bolt replaced early on due to some fit issues. They replaced it after I sent the original bolt back. Here's where it's gone downhill for me. The rifle recently started having bolt over base malfunctions with all mags. Mags aren't the problem. I sent one email to Stacy/PWS CS asking for advice on a remedy. No response. I sent a 2nd email with pictures of the malf about 2 weeks after the first email. No response. Sent a 3rd email. No response. I suspected the rifle was over gassed (Idk why it just started choking) and a $120 Vltor A5 system seems to have fixed this problem but that's not really the point. I think the problem is they've quickly expanded their product line and their once awesome customer service seems to have taken a serious hit. I always said my PWS was the one rifle I'd never sell (I even bought a $350 extra BCG during the scare) but now I'm frustrated and contemplating dumping the POS. there's no way I'd trust my life to this rifle and a $1800 range gun that has a new problem every month is not something I care to own. Even the best companies put out a lemon once in a while but as we all know the difference is in how they handle fixing those lemons. I welcome any comments or thoughts concerning my experience. I'd link PWS to this but they apparently don't read my emails. ~GreenSwamperin |

Unfortunately I can't post pics. My iPhone is the only camera I have and it corrupts pictures when I try to post them. I can however email them to someone else and it work when they post them. I'll do my best to explain this. The bolt doesn't hit the rim of the case and push it straight forward but instead rides slightly over the base of the round, catching on the side of it and wedges the round, bullet up into the top of the chamber. I know that was clear as mud. Just Google image search "bolt over base" and the 4th pic looks exactly like mine.

Quoted: I would say the gun has become under gassed, or is short stroking. Is this only with the craptastic WOLF!!!! Ammo? or does it do it on all ammunition? No this problem has all been with brass. From PMC .223 all the way up to LC 5.56 193 and TAP 75gr match Edit: as I mentioned in the "PWS questions" thread I had empties being shucked into the next county at 1 o'clock and my first bolt exhibited heavy and premature wear on the lugs. This led me to conclude it was over gassed and install the A5 system. The A5 has it pitching the empties out at about 2 with much less force. I could be wrong but it seems like the bolt was just barely passing the rim of the case before the next round had time to pop up. |

FWIW my S&W M15 in 5.45x39 has chronic bolt over base issues. The gun is one of the early uppers that was sold separately that I married up later with a S&W M15 lower assembly. The early uppers were KNOWN to be over gassed. The frequency of this specific malfunction decreased slightly with the addition of an H2 buffer. It does not help that the C products mags for this caliber sucked, but I hopeful of eventually getting this thing to run reliably.
That said, it doesn't cheer me up much to read about such problems with PWS since I'm waiting on my Form 4 to be returned for my PWS Mk110. It sounds like the solution is to shoot 3k rounds and then put an LWRC or LMT Upper on it...... |

I seem to be the rare exception to the rule. I'm not sure about the Mod 1's but I remember there being some issues with the gassing on the Mk110 Mod 0 and the system was reworked into the Mk110B. I believe the running of a suppressor played into this issue and may have led to the use of the adjustable gas block on the Mod 1's. On the customer service issue, I wasn't aware that PWS had moved to a new facility and I'm sure that had something to do with the communication problems I experienced. Stacey did get back to me last week and we both agreed it was best to leave the A5 system on the rifle and see if it continues to run without problems. I can't say I'm happy about having to put a $100 buffer system on my $1800 rifle to get it to run properly but it is what it is. |

I have the same gun and have not had ANY issues, though I stay away from Wolf, even though it works in this gun.
have you: cleaned the piston and chamber? I use oven cleaner on the piston, let it sit over night, takes most (not all) of the carbon off the rod shaft and tip without scrubbing. Rem 40x bore cleaner on the piston chamber. Are you using the PWS enhanced buffer? Check the buffer for tilt wear Did it have the same symptoms using NEW ordinary recoil spring, and regular buffer. Good luck! |
