Hey guys..
I would like to know why i should or should not convert my bushmaster to piston system. What are the benefits and whats involved? |
|
The benefits of going the piston route are easier cleaning as the bolt doesn't get fouled up and remains cool while shooting. The recoil signature of your rifle will feel a little less as well.
The downsides are the added cost of buying the conversion kit (recommend an Adams Arms), you may or may not get some carrier tilt depending on the bolt carrier you get. The Adams Arms shouldn't give you much if any tilt. 90% of my ARs are piston driven and I love them. |

You may want to invest in a complete upper instead of a conversion. It's much easier to sell a complete upper than a used conversion kit. Keep which ever you like or use more.
What piston were you planning on using? If you don't mind the clamp on gas block, I'd recommend Adams Arms. Opsrey if you want to keep a pinned FSB. |
| Also try to keep in mind that you're going to hear all the talk about "carrier tilt", but nobody seems to be able to show that it causes any failure of any type. Slightly more wear? Possibly. But will it cause a failure before a worn chamber or barrel? I'm yet to see it. That said, others may have seen it. I'd like to hear from people who have seen it. Too many theorists without reality when it comes to carrier tilt, IMHO. |
