I tried to use the search function to find information on this kit but was unsuccessful. Anybody on this forum care to chime in with their experiences of this kit? I'm considering a kit that allows me to keep the standard foresight. Thanks.

I had one and sold it not that long ago. It's based off the POF system, heavy, and and older design. There are better options out there.

I have an Osprey defense kit that has worked great so far. It is in a Bushmaster M4 fixed front sight

I think the retro kit is based on the ARES system with the addition of a bbl clamp. I added the Bushy clamp to my ARES, approximating the Bushy. It works fine, but cleaning is more involved than in say an Adams Arms (which I'll most likely upgrade to in the future), cause you need to pull the HG to get at the piston. I find normal HGs a PITA to remove and when I added a VLTOR (Need Allen wrench), piston maintenance in the field gets interesting. Bottom line: Works great. But if you want SHTF worthy go Adams (or CMMG, PWS, etc....), not because it is really better but it is easier to maintain (IMHO).

Your front sight is overrated. Don't let it hold you back from what you really, really want

Ares, 200+ rounds through it, no problems.

Yup, its the Ares system.  Had one on my Bushy and ran @500 rounds through it without a single issue.  Didn't think it was tough to clean at all.  It made me love the piston design in general...so much cleaner and cooler.  Sold it to my brother and he's still running it.  Now I have a couple LWRCs....

Oh and I'm sure that you actually own one!  Why would they be "junk".

There are many things i've never owned that I know are junk.

If you like 'em, buy 'em up... You can probably find them cheap.

so what's your alternative to this "junk" being this is a technical forum and NOT GD. Bushmaster is a solid company and they don't prduce low grade products and i doubt they would install the Arse system if it was problematic. what piston system are you running and what's your experience with them i'm a Adams Arms fanboy, but i see other systems as being good and an altternative to the DI system. the AA conversion kit and factory AA upper i have run 100%, i've seen almost all the other system run in person, the only piston system i have seen choke was a CMMG at a carbine course, the poor guy had trouble all day. i have seen a Bushmaster Piston rifle at the range and low and behold, it functioned 100% while i was shooting several lanes down. i'm just curious if you have any real insight on what the issues are with the Arse system or if your just puking on someones thread to be a douchebag

Soo what determines "junk" status for something you've never owned and thus have no real experience with?  I have a mixmaster model 1911A1 A rem slide with an HS barrel on an Essex arms frame...is that "junk" because its not an original Colt? Or Kimber, funny that because I can shoot a beer can across a field all day long with it. Seems to me that with firearms what matters is reliability and accuracy. My AR are put togeter monstrosities that I am sure you decry as junk. They are built to AM16E1 pattern and A1 pattern. They aren't from a known maker and they have those pencil bbls on them...are they junk? Funny that they have both been flawlessly reliable in my hands and more accurate than I can shoot w/out a sandbag. Pretty good for junk.

Sheesh

this is a technical forum, what you added was actual info not just GD type remarks without adding anything, again what makes the Bushmaster/Arse set up "junk" low quality parts? high failure rate? the OP is trying to get info on a certain system, and wanted to know what is known about them. the posted added ZERO help other than "junk", noone is calling you or your rifles out, i'm just sick of coming to this website as a paying member and reading internet commando Joes opinions, if they have facts attached to them, then please share with us. if the guy that posted "junk" had a personal experience at a range, someones back yard and the rifle system didn't run, failed, etc...then please by all means lets us know, many of us here would like the info.

Nah... I just gave the short version of your response.  It's junk compared to 10 other better options.
