I'm having a problem with my POF bolt not locking back when the last round is fire with a magazine. What do you guys think the problem is?
This bolt is np3 coated so it doesn't need any lube. Also I tried several different Magpu pmag magazines and they all do the same. This occur with factory ammo and reloads too. |

I have the same problem if I don't insert the PMAG hard enough.
Try putting 1 round in and smacking the bottom of it before firing. Do you see any excess polymer wear on the PMAG? Also have had the opposite problem with new PMAG's. The bolt will get stuck back so hard the trigger finger bolt release can't get enough leverage to push it so I have to resort to the ping pong paddle or take my hand off fire control. Does it happen with the factory supplied CMAG? |

NP3 is slick stuff, but it would pay to at least lightly lube it. If this is a new rifle, even moreso. Lube it. So it sounds like you're short-stroking OR your mag followers aren't engaging the bolt hold-open. If you're only using Pmags, try an aluminum mil-spec magazine from NHMTG, oKay, Colt, etc. What kind of factory ammo? Some rifles will shoot the Silverbear/Wolf/Russian steel cased just fine, but it is relatively underpowered ammunition. Try brass cased 5.56. Leave the reloads at home for now. What setting is your gas plug at? normal or suppressed? You have to eliminate variables, hence my questions. If you've tried brass-cased 5.56 (not 223), have tried aluminum mil-spec mags, have checked your gas settings, and LUBED the BCG...but still have problems the it's the rifle. If this is a new rifle, it's time to call POF. Otherwise, you can try flipping the piston around, changing out the recoil spring (I once had one 2.5" longer than spec....caused short-stroking). |

Quoted: I would seriously try it on another lower before you went any further. i 2nd this. i also have a pof upper. some problem, right after i swapped triggers in my lower. i know that sounds crazy but it was something i done. i had an experienced person take the trigger out and put it in again,,, no problems.

| Check to see if the bolt catch is able to come up far enough to reliably stop the bolt. On my P-308, the two ambi bolt release plungers (I'm not sure what you'd call those peices) were slightly too long. They bottomed out on each other and the effect was that the bolt release was slightly depressed even when the right-side lever was in its resting position. I filed one down a bit (maybe half a millimeter) and it resolved the issue. That half a millimeter translated to the bolt catch raising up 2mm higher and reliably catching the bolt. If you do this, just err on the side of caution. If you remove too much, you'll render the right-side bolt release lever non-functional. |
