I am selling my stag model 1 so I can upgrade to a piston AR. I was thinking about the sig 516 but after reading some bad reviews im having doubts. I would like to stay as close to a grand as possible. I am very mechanically inclined but not a gunsmith. So Im debating whether I should attempt a build or just buy one, any ideas? Thanks

If building means buying a complete lower and a complete upper and slapping them together, then building is fine.  If you're gonna do a from scratch build, it may end up costing you more for the tools like vise, action block, barrel wrench, torque wrench, punches and hammers, etc...

Where is a good place to buy a complete upper and lower? Also what are some good brands that dont break the bank? Thanks

I spent about $750 on building a x39 upper from scratch. Shipping was the big killer because nobody had all the components in one site. I probably could have bought an assembled piston upper for less.

FWIW:
Delton A3 upper, 10rd magazine and barrel from JSE Surplus
SI Defense x39 bolt
OPS-416 kit (check Gunbroker)
M1S firing pin and Delta ring
AA bolt spring
AAC 51T Blackout

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately what you said was over my head Ive been doing some research and I think im going to go with the Adams Arms upper and Im still undecided on the lower. I wish the Sig 516 had good reviews, its exactly what i want.
