| Anyone have an idea who is making the piston system in the new upgraded M4 the Army will be fielding? |
|
Only time will tell. I can only hope they'll make an intelligent, conservative choice, to go with a system that will be easy to convert with and can use the most variety of common handguards instead of spending even more money using a system that requires a proprietary handguard like older designs. They don't seen to care about saving money though and in my opinion there seems to be a serious lack of common sense in some of the gear chosen. I wouldn't be surprised to just see them stick with standard M4's and spend the money on other technologies like they always seem to. |
| Again, I think it's real suspect that Colt suddenly releases a piston. Once momentum on an idea picks up, and there is plenty of money to keep it in motion, it's hard to stop. When everyone shows up to what new rifle can we buy, and you don't have one of them "new ones", I think for better or worse, you don't look good. I have no reason to beleive that Colt wouldn't make a great piston, so bring it on. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get caught with their pants down at the last testing and the no change verdict was to delay so Colt could catch up. Agian, so what, but I like a big black helicopter story. |

Pistons are nothing new, it just took this long for the military logistics gurus to accept them. What would be nice if these new M4's would have rails in the upper for the BCG to ride on. |
