Well I finally got back from leave and got to shoot my new MRP CQB with 16" barrel.  I also bought an ACOG TA31H-G with Larue mount.  So I am sighting it in at 100m and my groups are 3.5" to 4" (10 shots).  I fired around 150 rounds and couldnt do much better.  5 round groups seemed to be around 2.5" to 3".  I was shooting prone but had front and rear supports for the rifle.  Ammo that I was shooting was 62 grain privi (SS109 type) and winchester Q3131 and both preformed poorly.

I know that I shoot better than this, everytime I have qualified I have shot 40/40.  I am also one of my platoons designated marksman.  So I know I can shoot but for some reason I cant get good groups with this rifle.

Not sure if its the scope or the rifle and 95% sure its not me.  There was no vertical or horizontal stringing but some of the 5 round shot groups I noticed would be around 1.5" then one shot would open it up to around 2" to 3".  The scope seems tight in the larue mount and the mount it tight to the rail.  The only odd thing I noticed was when looking down the barrel there seems to be a spot about 2" long that looks dirty but I cant get it clean.  Its just one thin straight line going over the lands and groves at the bottom of the barrel.  I just dont know if it might be a flaw in the barrel or just really really stubborn carbon.  Also there are brass shavings on the bolt face and inside the extractor.  Honestly the fit and finish on this rifle is really not that great but not bad enough IMO to cause problems.  I do believe its one of the early MRP CQB piston rifles they made not sure if newer ones are any different.

The only other thing I can think of is that the two screws that hold the barrel on might be mis-torqued.  I have not messed with the torque settings from the factory.  Sorry for the long post but this is just so frustrating since I just spent $2500 on this gun and scope and it wont even shoot to Mil-Spec standards.  Thanks for any help and advice.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your MRP. I've never shot mine for groups and I have the 12" piston version. You may be able to get a better response here in the MRP thread..Good luck and I hope you can diagnose your issue..

2.5 to 3" is about what I'd expect for Privi SS109 and a chrome-lined bore.

My guess is that with some decent 69gr. or 77gr. match you'd do quite a bit better.

Besides, ACOGs are great for practical accuracy, but not the best optic in the world for absolute accuracy.

Well when we qualified we zeroed at 100m with acogs and colts that  have been around the block and can consistently shoot around 1 inch

But, you weren't shooting Privi 62gr., either.

I know privi isn't match but "supposedly" it built to the same specs as M855.  In my CMMG that I sold to get this it would hold around the 3“ mark but that was with a CCO and no magnification.  Ill try some heavier match stuff next, but maybe I'm expecting to much.

One good thing almost 200 rounds down the tube and no signs of carrier tilt.

Sorry I completely forgot about this thread.  I called LMT and they said to send the barrel back.  They confirmed that the spot in the barrel I saw was severe pitting.  So they had a new barrel shipped to me and I'm about to go shooting so ill report back.
