I'm thinking about putting a Levang Linear Compensator on my Ruger SR556, anyone tried this?, comments.

I put one on an Armalite infantry rifle with 20" barrel and it pushed the noise out in front of me but did not quiet it as much to fire the rifle without earmuffs a buddy said could be done but put one on my 16" M4 and it decreased sound and flash a lot.Tried to put one on my 7:62x39 upper using the size threaded adapter after boring out to the proper caliber from .22 and never did find where they were shooting.
The shrot version, dampens recoil nicely, decreases flash and noise on shorter barrels.I paid $19.00 for mine (Brownells Dealer) but normal sell is about $40 |
| They are two different animals. The PWS is primarily a compensator, with flash hiding capabilities. It's loud, and most of the muzzle blast is directed out the sides, which helps with controlling recoil and muzzle jump (not that ARs have a lot of this anyway). The Levang, on the other hand, is more of a "muzzle blast redirector", which makes it great for keeping the peace with people shooting next to you, but not so great at reducing flash (although it does do that to some extent) or controlling recoil. |

Received my Levang Linear Compensator today from Brownell's, It's actually shorter than the Ruger Flash supressor. I'll take it to the range early next week and report back.

How does the PWS compare in performance? http://primaryweapons.com/store/pc/catalog/FSC556_L_1.jpg There is no comparison. The FSC556 is a great comp. and performs some flash reduction. The Levang directs the flash and concussion forward. It has some weight that would help muzzle rise. Not sure if it has any Compensator properties. They look good on a 7-7.5" sbr with the comp. peeking about a inch or two out of the rail. |

Does the Levang keep the flash out of the shooter's line of sight at least? Have you fired one in low light conditions? Thx. |
| I have not used them on a 5.56 but use them to replace the suppressors when I switch them from some of my rim fire rifles and pistols as tread protectors and to redirect the blast when unsuppressed. For that the accuracy is still there and a little less noise. |
