I have a friend that used an Adams arms system on his carbine length barrel and went to range today.  I have 2 problems first I have to charge the handle after each shot. Failure to cycle.  Second would be that We used an MI BUIS on the block and it's shooting real low.  Is there a specific front sight to use and what do we do about the failure to cycle.

Are you using a MI gas block front sight that is made for a lower height gas block, instead of the "same plane" front sight like you should be using?

Here is the link that describes the three settings on the gas block.

I found that with mine it helped to run the bolt wet,  ie well oiled. It failed to cycle with initally a fine film, but upon oiling liberally it worked fine.  It probably neede a little extra lube to wear in a bit.  After it started cycling it  has run fine.

Q. What are the adjustable gas settings for?
A. Our gas block is set up with 3 different gas setting that are easily adjusted by pressing down the detent pin and rotating the gas plug either clockwise or counter-clockwise. The 12 o’clock position is the full or open position and should be used with normal fire. The 1 o’clock position is the low or suppressed position and is best used with a suppressor on the firearm. The last 3 o’clock position is the off position and allows your AR to fire without cycling the action.

I was just looking at one of these...

Mine was short stroking as well until I replaced the SSS buffer spring with the regular (shorter and weaker) stock spring.
Try a lighter buffer if a shorter weaker spring doesn't fix it.

Be sure to check the piston moves freely w/ no binding.

Every weapon system is different.  In other words it's optimal to "tune" each weapon accordingly.  I would recommend changing the type of buffer you are running.  The other thing is that if you are running .223 ammo it could be a weaker powder charge. Normaly on the AA system its less about the system then it is on the ammo you are running.  I would almost bet to guess that in your current configuration that if you ran XM193 or 855 ammo it would run fine.  If you are running .223 ammo I would run through differnet buffers to get it to cycle correctly.  Either standard, H buffer, or H2 buffer.  You probably already did this but make sure the block is lined up correctly. If that is ok then take the selector out of the front and check for initial carbon build up.  They are tight and depending on how dirty the powder is, it could have built up on the op-rod.  Which is ok until it breaks in if its a tight setup?  Let usknow if you need any more help on it!    Don't hesitate to call!
