Ok guys, since the ACR is a FAIL of epic proportions, I have an idea (I actually suggested this to Kurt at KKF, but he was too busy at the time), for a forward charging handle similar to the ACR or SCAR. This would only work on piston rifles as it requires the use of the op rod.
Here goes: a non-reciprocating ambidextrous forward charging handle that would engage an enlarged portion on the op-rod on most of the piston kits/conversions I have seen. This idea may require a new op-rod, but I think if done correctly, could make use of existing rail systems with little to no modifications. Picture a larger charging handle (just the end you grasp, shortened but with larger "ears") The latch would engage a dimple that could be mounted on the open slots found on most rail systems. The rail may only need slotted enough to allow enough rearward travel to allow full cycling (or even better, bolt release). I will try to post a pic if I can translate my idea into something that doesn't look like my daughter drew it. I'm not looking for patent rights or anything, just trying to make the AR platform that much more versatile, although if someone picks this up, I want free ones for life. Your input please! Thanks! |
