AR15.com is proud to announce the AR15.com Multitasker. More ordering details to follow shortly. Here is a detailed write-up on the Multitasker from the product developer:

Multitasker Tools LLC is
proud to be partnering with AR15.COM
â to
offer the ARFCOM-edition AR MultitaskerTM tool.

The patent pending AR
Multitasker is a versatile multitool with specific components designed for use
with AR rifles:

·

Unique interchangeable
tool bit driver system that also functions as a front sight adjustment tool

·

Backup M4 stock
wrench (for tightening the castle nut)

·

3/8” box wrench
for tension nut adjustment of LaRue TacticalTM mounts

·

Bent-tip carbon
scraper

·

Chisel-tip
carbon scraper

In addition, the AR
Multitasker is equipped with a pair of needlenose pliers and a 2.5” Tanto-style
knife blade with a sturdy liner lock safety.

The handles are covered with
G10 panels for a sure gripping surface. All metal surfaces are treated with a
durable QPQ salt bath nitride finish.

BACKGROUND

The genesis of the AR
Multitasker project began when I was asked to collaborate on the design and
production of the Pocketsmith multitool for 1911 pistols by my friend Gary
Smith @ Caspian Arms.

This is Caspian’s latest
version of the Pocketsmith – the pliers also function as a bushing wrench:

I had the basic idea of making
an AR-centric product that would NOT sacrifice the overall utility of a true multitool.
In other words, the goal was to create a tool that would be not be limited to
just working on your AR.

The basis of the tool would
be a good pair of pliers, plus a useful knife. I also liked the concept of an
interchangeable bit driver system, as it would greatly extend the utility of
the tool and allow for the use of high quality hollow ground tool bits.

For those of you that are
not looking for a tool with this form factor, stayed tuned for the Multitasker
2 ;)

The AR Multitasker project
could not have been possible without input from good friends such as ARFCOM
members RRice, 1ARNewbie (Mike “Skinny” Mers) and Neil from Gun Gallery in JAX;
I can’t thank them enough for their help.

PRODUCT DETAILS

The needlenose pliers make
picking out the bolt carrier cotter pin a breeze:

The 2.5” Tanto knife blade
is made from 440C stainless; the liner lock safety mechanism is easy to use,
even when wearing gloves.

The G10 panels provide a
true non-slip gripping surface, just like with a good tactical knife.
Multitasker Tools is the first manufacturer to offer G10 grips on a multitool,
but we probably won’t be the last…

The 3/8” box wrench was
designed to enable tension adjustment of LaRue Tactical throw levers, but an
added benefit is the ability to remove the gas plug on M-14 rifles:

The bent-tip scraper,
inspired by the Chinese traditional bamboo ear-wax pickers, has a radiused tip
that allows it to reach into the base of the bolt carrier.

The chisel-tip scraper is at
the end of the file; it has a more aggressive profile than the bent-tip
scraper.

The interchangeable bit driver
system really increases the utility of the AR Multitasker. Furthermore, every
AR Multitasker tool comes with five (5) DOUBLE-SIDED bits in the sizes most
commonly encountered with AR mounts and related accessories (2 slotted
screwdrivers, I Phillips screwdriver, T10 Torx, T15 Torx, plus 3/32”, 7/64”,
1/8”, 9/64” and 3/16” hex bits).

These bits are hollow-ground
from high carbon steel, and feature a ball detent to hold them securely when
inserted into the tool bit holder.

BTW, we made the bit
driver long enough so that you can reach the grip screw – we thought that might
come in handy ;)

You probably noticed that integrated
into the front of the bit holder is a 4-prong front sight adjustment tool:

Last but not least, we
managed to cram a backup M4 stock wrench in there as well - it was not designed
to replace the armorer’s wrench for removing staked in castle nuts, but it can
be used to tighten a loose one.

Multitasker Tools LLC is
proud to be a supporter of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), and will donate $1
for each AR Multitasker sold to this worthy cause. For more information about
WWP, please visit:

The tool is made in China. I would hope you at least handle one before deeming it a POS.

Basically, we started out with a stock multitool chassis, and crammed in custom made pieces geared toward the AR user. If you look carefully enough, you can see the difference in the construction/finish; this is not your typical chainstore import tool.

I know where it is made.

Knifecenter already has these, but I want one with the BFL on the handle.

Timetable for availability?

I played around with the prototype at the SHOT Show.  Since SHOT, a few upgrades and improvements have been made.  If it is anywhere near the quality of the one I held at SHOT, ARFCOM will not be disappointed.

I just received a couple T&E samples from Shane and initial impressions are good.  Seems like a quality tool.  Of course I would like to see a US made version but as stated above this isn't a dollar store multi-tool.  Very well thought out and will make an excellent addition to my range bag.  I have a carbine class on the 20th as well as one on the 27th, I'll be sure to show these around and get as much feedback as possible.

I'm sure many of us wish that we could have everything made in the USA. Unfortunately, we all want things at lower prices as well, and those two don't always go hand in hand.

Not strange at all

When buying anything, I always look for a product made in the USA.  If there is a USA version available I will gladly pay more for it.  Sometimes, there just isn't one.  I don't like China, but it's a fact of life that you have and will continue to buy from China.  I'll bet you bought something today that was made in China, everyone does as there is no way around it.

Thanks, here is a review just posted on MilitaryMorons:
http://www.militarymorons.com/weapons/access.html#multi
I totally respect the right of those who refuse to consider the tool because it's made in China; but at the end of the day, I just couldn't see any way to recoup my development costs if I offered a $150 made-in-USA tool.

Just for the record, I found out this is an issue with the site and Firefox. In IE I could add it to cart and checkout just fine. I noticed I couldn't read the captchas when sending IM's either, but I could just fine in Explorer.

i'm wondering more about the backstop in that photo.

i also try to buy U.S. made stuff when i have a choice and i respect the choices of those who choose to do without.  but i wonder, how come when a U.S. company offers us gun-related products at a decent price, we choose not to buy, but don't have a problem typing that on a chinese-made keyboard while reading this site on an asian-made computer screen? for the guys who choose to pass on the multitasker, is the same standard and decision process applied when buying your computer, TV, microwave, home appliances and electronics, or is it just accepted that US-made those things are practically impossible to find? not a criticism or judgement on my part - just a question.
i still wear levi's occasionally, but it's been a while since i've seen a US-made pair in the stores.
