My 2011 "Coconut rifle".  Going to recreate it with some Brownell's green furniture.

Appropriate here, too.  Brownell's brown furniture.  Going to make my current faux-602 a 601 with it.  Probably will paint it with Testors FS34079 dark Green OD like the one I did above, though the brown is darn nice, too.  Still need to get a triangular charging handle and 601 bolt catch.

I want to play. Sure wish somebody would post a tutorial on how to post pics (since photobucket went byebye). A tutorial for REALLY computer illiterate folks!

Easy!  www.imgur.com.  FREE and easier to use than photobukshit was (before charging) with all its stupid pop-up adds.  Just regiter, then confirm through email, then upload like PB.

Weren't 601 bipod pouches open top, with no flap, or just a strap with a snap?

Hmmmm... I'm liking the brown.  I may just put it on unpainted for now.  I need warm daytime temperatures for a couple days to paint in repeated thin coats, but are weather is in the 60s at best and 30s at night right now.  The green may have to wait until next spring to do it correctly.

Great rifles!

By the way, the armalite on top, where did you get the mag? Real or repro? Who made it?

Arghhhh!!!!!!  Green stocks are a disease!  I decided to go green, and the temp got up to 70!  The picture of the handguards shows the Testors FS34079 paint best....I dug out my last NDS waffle mag just for the build.  Now I do need a triangular charging handle from NDS and a 601 bolt catch.. Oh, JT!

Damn!~!!!!!

Doing a second coat and a g@d d@mn tiny fruit fly landed on the wet paint where I was spraying!! WTF!  I got it off, but buggered the coat.  Almost out of paint.  Maybe after it is dry, I can doctor it. Rack number, maybe?    At least the handguards and pistol grip are perfect.

The finish on your furniture looks great, how did you get the mottled/marbled effect?

Way better!  When the fly landed on the wet paint (actually in the spray!), I had to use acetone to clean an area.  When I just started to remove it, the brown showing through looked AWESOME!  I won't be worried anymore about getting scratches and having the black show through.

I'll post later today, though I don't have a picture of it with brown peeking through.  I already re-painted it.

Did you sand/rough-up the stocks any, or spray directly as they came from Brownells?

I cleaned them with a liberal amount of acetone.  Judging by the trouble I had removing it around the fly landing spot, even though it was not totally dry, I think it will do OK.  Here's the finished furniture....

This is a daylight shot, and better shows the actual color...

Started the 602 to 601 conversion.  I put the green painted brown Brownells furniture and 601 duck bill flash hider on today, and it looks great, especially with my waffle mag.  Ordering a NDS triangular charging handle and a 601 bolt catch on Monday.  I will post pictures after I get it all together.

Update on my new 601. Triangular charging handle coming from Nodak, and 601 bolt catch coming from JT.  Last step is to send a selector and takedown pin to JT to get his "dimple treatment." I'll post an "as is" picture later today so you can see the Testors FS34079 painted brown Brownells furniture "in the wild."

Teaser...  With waffle mag and II 601 flash hider.  I still need dimpled selector and take down pin, and Triangular charging handle, and 601 bolt catch (inbound).  Somehow, the camera is not catching the green as it really is.  It is a tad darker and a hint of brown to it, instead of what the camera is showing...  Oh Well, you get the idea!
