at a gun show today and I picked up one of each of these Retro 3 prong flash hider and a birdcage, he said he's had them almost 40 years, and they look to have been covered in  cosmoline .... do they show correct patina/wear for the era ?? the bird cage has a closed end and just a hole for the bullet to pass, I wasn't sure if it was for a blank firing attachment  or what ??

got them for $ 10 each, he might have a few others, whats the going rate on the 3 prong in this condition, did I over pay or get a deal, may go back again tomorrow and see if he still has the others

Price wise you did pretty good on both.

The bird cage is a Clinton era muzzle brake though. Some ban states still need these.

I've never seen retro USGI flash hiders in this style shown.

I was able to pick up one more of each but he raised the prices to $ 15 each, I don't need the closed in muzzle break one and would gladly help out a brother in communist states if they need one.

is the 3 prong not considered RETRO ?? I'm confused by wagsfn comments ??

Your 3 prong FH at a quick glance looks more open, and not tapered larger/smaller from left to right in your photo. I could be wrong.

As was said, 3 prong is definitely retro. I never saw a birdcage like the one in the pictures on any of the rifles that I encountered while I was in the Army though, and all we had were A1's.
