| Only the bolt and charging handle seem replaced. If you want to restore the hardcoat anodizing, clean it with Acetone and a soft bristle nylon brush. You will be amazed what it looks like when you get that old cosmoline out of the pores! Great piece! The bolt carrier is original. It is "transitional" when they started milling the SP1 carriers. Should not have a C on the carrier. |

| Man that thing is sweet and old! In 65 the bolt carriers did not have a "C" stamped on them and the staking was minimal IIRC. I had an old one like that at one point. It would be nice to find the correct bolt and charging handle and you'd be in good shape. Love the dingy patina on the receivers. Congrats on your new acquisition. |

I just cleaned a rifle of patina a couple of weeks ago. I tried solvents and got nowhere. Purple Power and hot water turned it to like new. I did the furniture also. You can't imagine the dirt running off it. NEVER use solvents to try and clean a collectable. Honestly all you did was remove the rifles history. Hopefully you didn't get too aggressive with it. |

That is correct! NEVER remove anything that would give a collector an excuse to knock your rifle down in value! Seriously, collectors can be a funny, hypocritical, bunch (there are good guys, not to group everyone together). I personally enjoy original patina, but a rifle that looks like it rolled off the assembly line is sexy as well. It is YOUR rifle. Shoot it, and enjoy it. She is a beauty and value is far outside of my means. Cheers! |

Very good looking rifle, OP. The early SP1's are the only ones that I'd be interested in owning, and I too would want to clean it up the best I could. |

I appreciate everyone's advice, guidance and help.. My plan as of now is to gently clean it up to get the excess oil and grease off. Other then that I have no plans to do anything else to it. I usually use either Balistol or Hoppes to clean with. Anyone see any issues with this or denatured alcohol? I have sourced a correct bolt with the assistance of a member here. I also want to thank everyone who offered the correct parts. This is what makes this forum and others great.

So she is complete again. the bolt arrived yesterday and I was able to swap it tonight. I had the charging handle the next day. I have not done anything else at all to the rifle and am probably going to leave it as is. I appreciate everyone help and parts offers.
Thanks Finestkind |
