Who has the best/ most correct repro out there?

Try BRICK on here.  I think he just made some more.

Braceman might have a few.  I have one of his.

Which one are you looking for, the 3.5 or the 4.25? (I believe those lengths are correct)   John Thomas has a very correct 4.25 inch model. Retro Arms Works.

Griffin Armament makes a good one that functions as a linear comp.

I think Innovative Industries makes the most "correct" moderator copy available, but, it requires a tax stamp

Sorry, but that's just silly. $325 + $200 for a tax stamp for something that's going to fill up with lead and crap and barely reduces the sound level.

I'd buy a fake moderator and a real suppressor and call it good.

I understand your point but collectors are weird animals

Well it would be one thing if it was a real Colt one, another thing if it's a repro.

Are these going to be louder than say a 14.7" barrel with a birdcage FS?
8/6/2016 1:59:58 PM EDT
[#12]
No first hand knowledge but remember it was not designed to reduce noise as much as increase back pressure to improve reliability. The ATF in their infinite wisdom classified them as suppressors in that they did reduce the sound very slightly.

I have heard it makes them sound like a regular 20"

Just like the originals!!

However, I agree. A bit over-priced for what it is, especially when you add in the cost of the stamp, transfer fees, etc....

For my XM177E2 clone, I used a faux moderator from ar15sport.com. They are made .5" longer than the real deal so that when pinned to an 11.5" barrel, it brings it to 16".

I have a HALO but never use it on this gun. So a fake moderator is what I want here

This is for am M16 so length is no concern.

Are you are going to use the moderator on a 20" barrel?

No, the gun has an 11.5"

Ah, got it.

When you said "M16" I was thinking of the semi-auto 20" barreled rifle clones you usually see around here, not an actual full auto M16!

John does excellent work. Here's mine. Used a LW DD 14.5 1/7 twist that John also trimmed to length. Very accurate carbine.

Got a Brick moderator incoming for my build. Currently sitting as a quasi M653 clone.

Not 100% accurate (the N Stock), but in due time, it will be.

You used a barrel shim instead of a crush washer too, right?

I like the look of the slightly longer moderator as opposed to the slightly longer barrel. I'm planning on following your route when I build my GAU-5A/A clone.

I have a Griffen, and while aesthetically correct it causes my accuracy to suffer. Every time I pulled it off the rifle went back to Zero so I took it off and bought an air-soft metal repro that is really darn close without the closed off opening. No more accuracy issues.
Just my experience FWIW

Yep, I used one of those barrel shim kits you see on ebay. The shims fit perfectly in the back of the grenade ring and look much better than the crush washer. Without the shims the barrel sits too deeply into the grenade ring and the overall length comes up too short.
