Which one are you looking for, the 3.5 or the 4.25? (I believe those lengths are correct) John Thomas has a very correct 4.25 inch model. Retro Arms Works. 4.25" Contact John at Retro Arms Works. Sorry, I dont have a link handy, but a quick Google search will show his info. |

I think Innovative Industries makes the most "correct" moderator copy available, but, it requires a tax stamp

Sorry, but that's just silly. $325 + $200 for a tax stamp for something that's going to fill up with lead and crap and barely reduces the sound level. I'd buy a fake moderator and a real suppressor and call it good. I understand your point but collectors are weird animals

No first hand knowledge but remember it was not designed to reduce noise as much as increase back pressure to improve reliability. The ATF in their infinite wisdom classified them as suppressors in that they did reduce the sound very slightly.
I have heard it makes them sound like a regular 20" |

I'd buy a fake moderator and a real suppressor and call it good. Just like the originals!! However, I agree. A bit over-priced for what it is, especially when you add in the cost of the stamp, transfer fees, etc.... For my XM177E2 clone, I used a faux moderator from ar15sport.com. They are made .5" longer than the real deal so that when pinned to an 11.5" barrel, it brings it to 16". |

I have a Griffen, and while aesthetically correct it causes my accuracy to suffer. Every time I pulled it off the rifle went back to Zero so I took it off and bought an air-soft metal repro that is really darn close without the closed off opening. No more accuracy issues.
Just my experience FWIW |

You used a barrel shim instead of a crush washer too, right? http://ateymjgucghvdg9idwnrzxquy29t.g00.photobucket.com/g00/TU9SRVBIRVVTMiRodHRwOi8vaTEyMjgucGhvdG9idWNrZXQuY29tL2FsYnVtcy9lZTQ1MC9rZHdhZGRsZS9EU0NGNjY5MV96cHNmcWpjdnVxZi5qcGc%3D/$/$/$/$ I like the look of the slightly longer moderator as opposed to the slightly longer barrel. I'm planning on following your route when I build my GAU-5A/A clone. Quoted:

I'm planning on following your route when I build my GAU-5A/A clone. Yep, I used one of those barrel shim kits you see on ebay. The shims fit perfectly in the back of the grenade ring and look much better than the crush washer. Without the shims the barrel sits too deeply into the grenade ring and the overall length comes up too short. |
