| I need a BCG for my retro build and I saw a "full auto BCG" from Palmetto Armory. Can I use it in my build? What's the difference between a full auto BCG and one that's not full auto? Thanks. |

The full auto BCG's are what you want. The PSA BCG's will work for your build. I am using five of them for my six builds. I also bought one from AIMS Surplus and a charging handle. I got it cheaper than I paid at PSA. They had free shipping.
To answer the question. Semi auto bolts are cut off in the front a bit. They are also prone to jamming from what I read. The bottom part of the front end is shorter. The full auto bolts are more common today than semi auto ones. This will tell you better than I can and it has pictures to show the difference. |

Less material in semi carrier than full auto so it's lighter internal reciprocating mass. Most AR's are a little over gassed and heavier carrier tames them a bit. In other instances / scenarios the lighter semi carrier works better with adjustable gas block and such. Lots of ways to tune up / down cyclic rate, heavy buffer etc. Really kinda mute for the average semi auto end user unless they have a function issue.
As stated above generally the full auto carrier is the norm today. During ban years full auto carrier was a no! no! in some states and many were re-machined or mfg'd with semi profile and still not uncommon to see. Pretty sure Sarco still has a load of them for cheap with few takers today. Lot of firearm mfgs would only sell semi carrier BCG to general public also. ATF ruled full auto carrier was fine to use and pretty much killed semi carrier sales except for in a few localities at best. |
