...that CH forge code upper?

Finally got it together about a week ago and managed to get a pic today. A nice representation of a 1970's era M16A1. NDS lower, nice type E trapdoor stock (a few small scratches and dings), NOS grip, NOS handguards, Ar15Sport 1:12 barrel, wanted a Brownells but they ran out the day before I ordered this one.

Thanks Rangemaster.

Looks great, and I'm looking forward to a range report.

My first retro was a 603 also, but I took the easy route. I picked up a complete Colt upper with E stock and pistol grip on the EE before prices skyrocketed, found an unused older NDS-16A1 lower, miscellaneous LPK stuff including a gray trigger guard and mag release from AR15Sports and then slapped it together. Looks and shoots great.

Sweet  Thanks for the update.  Looks awesome.  My only retro will be a poseur faux 604 I am building on an Anderson A2 lower with a Fulton slick side upper.  Oh well, it will do until I get rich and do another 601 build! LOL.  The prototype was great, but to do it close to correct is a MONEY PIT!

Thanks Man, I don't have anywhere good here to shoot like I did back in Tennessee but there was no work there and NAVSEA was hiring here.

I'll probably end up checking out this new indoor place around Virginia Beach called Colonial Shooting Academy, they have a branch up near you. I hear they have machine gun rentals.

A six-oh-faux.

I hope you get rich soon, this Bernie sold his guns non-sense is getting old.

A guy at work is already wanting to buy this one from me. I hate the thought of selling guns, I had to let my Tok TT33 go a few years ago.

I'll probably end up checking out this new indoor place around Virginia Beach called Colonial Shooting Academy, they have a branch up near you.

I tried to get a part time job there selling reloading supplies.  Appeared they would rather hire the clueless and let them learn as they go.  Pretty much a joke with those in the know.  I  bought some powder there during the panic as most their customers wouldn't know what to do with powder but that was about it.

Pricey for what they offer too.  Basically an over priced  hang out for newbies and those with no business owning firearms paying there best to possibly learn how to operate one in a safe manor without shooting their eye out or their kid.

25 yd indoor range does very little for me,  being a rifle guy.  Looked like a pedo /  flasher hang out to me.  Some real strange looking birds in that place with firearms.  Circus looking Geeks with overcoats in the heat of the summer and such.  Look like they'd be more at home flashing an 8 year old with cotton candy in their hands at the elementary school or creeping out of a massage parlor than shooting a firearm to me.  Takes all kinds to make it spin.

If it's all you got to smell the powder better than nothing.  Wasn't aware of FA rental there.  I know the range by State police station on the southside has MG rental but kinda pricey also.  Think it was $1per rd for 9mm last time I went 20 years ago.  $60 for 30 seconds or such.

Guess I was blessed to grow up with gun safety,  firearms and  a place to shoot from about 8 yrs or so on.  Grandpa could kill crows at 100 yds plus with a 26" barrelled .22LR well into his 80's.  Crow in his 20 acre cornfield was done for.  Had it worked out to a science.

Get up this way on a weekend I'm not on call and I'll take you where you can shoot all you want in the great outdoors.  Shame you can't find a friend down that way with a bit of land that likes shooting. I  haven't hung out at Va Beach since I was a kid.  We make the ride to Myrtle if we want beach generally.  We prefer the stay and eat all you want hospitality to the hurry up and leave so someone else can have your seat mentality.

I know when I did the Sprint and Verizon cell towers down that way,  mostly in the boonies it wasn't uncommon to hear people cutting lose or a regular basis even during the week.  Of course they are generally installed on the high ground and lots of below sea level down there.

You might want to try Suffolk area too.  Not that far to ride.   I have some friends down that way.  I'll try and remember to ask what they do.  Most of them commute and work at the beach or at least Norfolk for employment.

One of my coworkers said it was a nice facility but also said it looked like a yuppie hang out.

We have a place in Grass Valley called "The Range."  It is a gun shop and 25 yard pistol and 50 yard rifle (separate from each other).  Cops/Retired cops shoot half price on Tuesdays ($8), so I go there to sight in my rifles in.  They are pretty cool.  They don't get their panties in a bunch when I shoot "featureless" with high capacity magazines, and I can even do my annual HR218 LEO qualification there, instead of going 3 hours to the county I retired from.

Their ammo prices a decent, as Miwall Ammunition wholesaler share the same business complex.  Their guns are high, though, so I usually got to Mustang Firearms (used th be Hoffmeyer's) or the Hunter's Blind.  Both good outfits with fair prices.
