I'm looking into beginning some slow parts acquisition for some of the prototype builds. There are some projects I'm wanting to open (and close) before I go there, but I've seen a lot of different variants within the prototypes.  I'd love to see others prototype clones, as well as learn more about the variants within the prototypes themselves, as I've done my best to be a die-hard attention to detail person.  The Black Rifle shows pictures of #2 and #3, but from searching through previous threads, there were 17 different variants and some of the prototype pieces don't mesh with either rifle.  I'm not even seeing photos under google, but then again with a 55+ year service rifle, searching for "M16 prototype" will yield a LOT of prototype pieces that are not the ORIGINAL weapon itself

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to seeing more of the prototype pics....I know a few of you had beautiful ones when I was looking through the archived threads.

Jon

I believe if you search under "AR15 prototype"  you will have better luck in a Google search.  If you search this web site you can find a great deal of prototype photos.  Good luck on your prototype!!

My favorite of the original prototypes is either #4 or #7, I think I like #7 better, but #4 would be easier to build.

BTW, use AR15 prototype or Armalite prototype to improve your search results

My number 4 will have its barrel back soon after a re-work. All parts but the tan or khaki M1 garand Sling.

Thanks.  I knew the M16 was the military designation, but for some reason I was not piecing together exactly how stupid what I was asking sounded.    Especially since adding "Colt" doesn't do anything, since it was owned by Armalite at that time...

It's all good, retro brother. You're on the right path now. We expect pics when finished.

Good copy!!!  I'll be getting pics in a week or so of the 601, XM16E1, and H&R M16A1.  All 3 are basically done.  One of my Soldiers also gave me a box of blanks from 1965 as well that he'd been given, and knew that I loved history and was building a timeline of M16s...so he thought of me.
