I offered someone $2000 for one of these about a month ago lol OK! You've made me feel much better. I will admit publicly for the first time--I paid $750 for my bipod a couple years ago. That's what it took to convince the previous owner to let go of the thing. Even as I did it, it felt wrong--I knew it was a ridiculous price to pay for some stamped tin and a spring! But it was the last accessory I needed for my original 601 (I even found my Delft scope before I found that bipod) and I was determined to finish the collection, no matter what. The retro disease is not fatal. But in its advanced stages, it will kick your wallet's ass! |
| aeyoung you did very well buying the Colt ArmaLite 62122 bipod, open top case and cleaning rod. If you could would it be possible to post measurements of the sections of the cleaning rod and tip, also the thread size, 8/32 or 8/36 and please check if the rod is alloy or steel. Your bipod pouch is the 2nd version with the short pocket on the outside for the cleaning rod, the first version had no pocket and the third version a full length pocket. Everything looks original to the time frame it was issued, from the few photos I'v seen it looks like it depended on what was currently available from stock on hand so there could be some differences in items issued. My pouch is the same open top design, has a long outside pocket, three section cleaning rod with knurled handle with no stripe and it's 8/32 thread. The bipod is unmarked with C clips on both sides. |

I have one of the unmarked bipods. I believe the unmarked bipod with clips on both sides to be the earliest version.
I have two different variations of the open top pouch. Both have the long pocket for the cleaning rod but one is approx. an inch longer than the other |
| I estimate the bipod, pouch and cleaning rod are from the 1961 to 1964 time period. These days for any of these items to surface will be more likely by accident since many were lost in Vietnam or are now in the hands of collectors who know what they have and thus the high prices if ever put up for sale. Also take into consideration the items were mfg in very low numbers with short production runs with changes to a new model that followed within a year. If you have even one or two of these items in your collection consider yourself very lucky. |
