Hello all just came across what I believe to be a great find. It is a colt sp1 #00022 Please let me know if I did and if any value. Thanks
I'll post pics ASAP |
| A lot of things didn't look right to me either so I called colt. They believe that the test gun was destroyed and serial number 22 was reused in 1966 which would make it look right. Does this sound right to you guys and will this affect the value after all it still is factory made number 22 right. |

The story (read around here) was that the first 25 receivers were reserved for executives or key personnel involved in development of the SP1. For a long time, we assumed that meant those rifles had the earliest features, but later research indicated that those "early" receivers weren't built into complete rifles right away, so some of them have "later" features.
That is definitely one I'd want a Colt historical letter on, then I'd start sending photos and notes to the Colt historian, trying to document as much as possible. But I'd start with getting ALL possible info from that person who used to work at Colt. |
