Hi all! Been stalking the forum for quite awhile. Ive assembled several standard AR's, so I'm not new to the platform. I am however new and slightly lost concerning the retro field! I decided to take the plunge and attempt my first retro build, when, what I'm pretty sure is a late 604 upper fell into my hands. Ive been scouring here, and retroblackrifle.com trying to educate myself with the subtle differences between all the models.
I do have a question regarding lowers. My upper is a large (.313) pivot pin. As far as i can determine, the only lowers that will work with my upper is a Colt, and maybe a NODAK. Since i live in California (don't hate me), an original Colt lower is pretty much a no go here. (Insert jealous face to those of you who live in free America). So is a NODAK my only choice here? I tried to install my upper on a standard lower with an offset bushing. Just doesn't work for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!! Patrick |

Patrick A standard lower SHOULD work with the offset pin. And since it's a slick side upper with a large pin it's an SP1 upper and not a 604. I THINK you just have to fornicate with the insert to get it in the proper orientation. Many guys LockTite it after they get it in the right spot. I've heard it's a pain but can't speak from experience just from memory of what I've heard on here. Smart people will be along shortly to answer you properly. Pictures please! |
