[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Another Apex A1 Upper

I picked up an A1 stripped upper from Apex. It looks nice but coated with a black finish and looks like a sander might have been used on it. Since these pics where taken I have removed the finish on the receiver. I true to post pics soon.

This is what is looks like after I removed the black coating. The inside of the upper looks good, but the outside looks ruff. I have plans on using this upper to build an XM177.

What are you going to refinish it with? I would think the shiny black finish made any defects more obvious. Flat or satin finish may conceal sander marks. Which are not real visible in the pics BTW. Should be a good XM upper.

Steel wool it and use non chlorinated brake cleaner to clean it. I did this to a couple and worked good.

Remember to remove forge codes if making an xm out of it.

I love taking I by rough items and making them look good.

Gee I do not know if I am building a Zombie gun or something that got dragged behind a boat up a river.

I not sure about refinishing my upper, I am kind of liking the "ruff" look. As I get more parts in maybe I will see how everything comes together. Maybe my next "part" should be a receiver.........
