On an M16A2 model 711/715, is that an A1 upper and lower then everything else is A2? Reference this thread;

I always thought it was A2 everything except the barrel and upper receiver, and from the pics it appears that's how it is.

Appears to be an A1 lower also.

Looks like a 603 with A2 furniture, delta ring, round FA and an A2 FH.

Colt marked a bunch of A1 lowers as M16A2s in those years, FWIW.  They had skinny, A1 profile barrels but were 1:7 twist. I think most of those barrels were exported, likely to Israel. You don't see them very often. The transitional model was adopted as the M16A1E1. I saw and handled one in ROTC in '86 or so.

So if I used an A1 upper and lower, and everything else (except barrel) A2, the question becomes could I get away with a 1:7 A2 barrel with an A1 bird cage? I'm sure when it was done it would drive me nuts, but I'm kobling together spart parts to build this one.

Looks like the M16A1E1 was a model 645 and could have the A2 barrel. Sounds more like what I have the parts for. Thanks Morg.

I have FN and Colt Pencil barrels that are 1x7 twist, they aren't uber rare but not as prevalent as an A1 with 1x12 or A2 in 1x7 twist.
