When I was looking for a carry handle for a build I picked this up of off EBAY. In researching the MMA marking on it, I found it was off of an older Colt.  I really don't want or need a collectible carry handle (If there is such a thing!!), so I am trying to find out if it worth anything extra or not. It does not sit flush on any of my current flat top uppers, so can anybody tell me if it is worth anything extra or has any special value, if not I will just stick it on a new build and march on.

I took pictures of it with an recent build so you can see the color contrast.

Mine is marked A-8 opposite side where yours is MMA. I have no clue about it, but I am not fussy, even with new upper, colors don't matter to me personally. I prefer mine look used.

Wierd.  8/3 elevation drum is for a rifle (M16A4).  Usually the Colt/GI carry handles have the more squared corners in the cutout like your black one.

Well not really retro, but...
The drum can be set with the numbers on the drum are on either side.  The one pictured is for a left handed shooter.  M4 Carbines have a drum marked 6/3, and rifles are 8/3.  Yours is from a "musket," what they call the older 20" barreled M16A2s and M16A4s.  The grey shows it is early production, at least for a flat top.  I got a demilled A4 carry handle, cut it flush with the rear of the handle hole and use it as a BUIS on my KISS carbine featureless build. Mine is from a demilled FN upper, and it is rounded like the OP's new handle.

The elevation wheel is marked 6/3 not 8/3.. I had read elsewhere that this particular handle came from a model 6700 and I am just trying to find out if that information is correct or not.

BTW,  I guess the folks at Fort Carson are clearing out their carry handles. I bought the one on the pistol from a guy at Colorado Springs selling on EBAY. He said he purchased a rather large crate of them (out of a several CONEX boxes full of crates),  for next to nothing at a sale held on Carson recently.

What the he--?

A removable carry handle??
Who in the name of our Blessed Eugene Stoner world came up with that ridiculous idea?

When I was a boy, our carry handles were attached real good to our rifles, and we liked it, I tell you!  We liked it that way!
Why, first it's a removable carry handle and next thing you know, they'll be making fat barrels!  And longer stocks!  There's no telling where it'll stop!  Might as well just put a piston in that gas system!

You damn kids with your piercings and tattoos and purple hair...razzle fracking mumble...GET OFF MY LAWN!!
