Does anyone know what the deal is with the pins around the Safety selector? The top one looks like it might be a sear block, but looks smaller than others I've seen. The bottom one has me baffled.

Interesting, the Sporter Lightweight I had was just 5,000 serial numbers higher and had the full fence and the sear block pin only extruded through the right side (no pics, but thats how it was)

what a odd duck. it's a SP-1 carbine in everything but name. sear block in a A1 lower? proves the "never say never" at Colt's. strange days indeed. and KK if you had a partial fence, it didn't have the double slotted screw? Full fence, and I only assume the double screw was originally what it came with but it was missing. I bought it and an SP1 lower together, I only wanted the SP1 lower, but it was a package deal. All or nothing and I really wanted the SP1 lower

| It's the pinned in sear block. Post-1989 production, where Colt was forced to drop the AR-15 name by California's first AW ban, but were still reusing Sporter II spec lowers. The SP1 was phased out in the mid 1980's and replaced by the Sporter II series, which was identical in the lower receiver to the SP1 except for the roll mark. Later Colt models eventually added the standard mag fence and takedown pin, then they went to the large FCG pin nonsense. |
