I'm thinking about putting a colt clone scope on my wantabe 603 build. I'd love to have the real thing and the gun turned out nice but truthfully the build isn't of caliber to drop another $300 plus into for the real deal.

I've seen several different makes of retro clone colt scopes out there and was hoping that maybe one of you guys have the experience or knowledge of what the best quality knock off scope is I could pick up?

My son has an old NCStar (predecessor of LEAPERS) Colt 4x Clone with a BDC.  Actually a decent little scope, and the BDC (bullet drop compensator) is about dead on with 55 grain ammo from a 16" barrel.

It does look the part...if it's decent quality, might be worth a shot.

Some of the clones I have ran across so far.....

Leapers
NCStar
BSA
Tactical Weapon
K-Sports
BARSKA
SNIPER  LT4X20L
ULTIMATE ARMS 420CH

I know the original Colts were made in Japan but who was the company that produced them for Colt?

Hakko?  From what I can tell, they're now Japan Optics Limited.

They still sell scopes, but they don't look much like the original...

I've read that an "original" Hakko is almost as much as the name-brand "Colt".

I have three of the NCStar scopes. They are decent for the price and come with a lifetime warranty. You can get them on Amazon for around $25-$35.

Great thread, I have been wondering the same thing about clone scopes. I have a couple of "close, but not quite prefect" retro's that would benifit from this type of scope. Thanks for the links.

I had that exact scope.  The reticle is a P4 sniper.  The problem is,  there's too many lines in the reticle for such a small tube (22mm?).  It actually covers the bullseye at 100 yds.  Also there were no positive clicks on the adjustments.  It felt "mushy" instead of, click, click, when adjusting.  On the positive side, the glass was pretty clear.  I wound up returning it to Amazon.  I guess you can't expect much from a $20 pos scope.

Anyone have any dealings with some of the other name brands? The K-Sports is the one that currently has my interest.

I bought this one last week, got it yesterday.  Will try it out

next week.  Nice looking scope, fits well to the handle

and looks the part of a retro scope

My personal experience is one may have to purchase and return a couple / few to get one that actually works.  I could have purchased returns or blems as NIB mostly at funshows but I wasted a lot of ammo on those over the years.  Mine simply wouldn't adjust.  Move it left but it didn't actually move,  etc.  Warranty is good,  hassle isn't.  Probably much better today than a few years back.  For coins on optics what could one really expect.  Not like they are $300 plus.  Good luck.  I'll probably pick up another at some point as I kinda want the look and will probably get another lemmon / pissed off but that's my luck not necessarily others luck.  I like my NC Star clamp on bayo lug bipod for the coins.  Not a Harris but 1/3 the cost and it's easier to abuse the cheap stuff.

I've never had much luck with any NCStar products, they either all broke or had some sort of issue. I just stay away from them for now on.....

The NC Star my son has was an early one.  It actually has click stops on the adjustments.  The new ones do not.  I think I may go with a Barska..  Sure wish I could find one of the Israeli scopes that were floating around about 2 or 3 years ago.

Stay patient and jump on the highest quality one you can find in your price range. I'm looking for a Colt 4x or IDF scope myself. I can't even find anything on GB at the moment.....

I've got a 4X C-More that I picked up years ago, although I've not been able to find out much about it. No one currently with C-More has any information.  Seems well-made.
