After the long wait on the waiting list for a 1/9 pencil barrel from Ar15Sport.com  I got it.. Beautiful barrel,but.....

I mounted it on the NOS 604 upper I got from HKKiller.  When I had the M4 barrel on it, the FSB was dead-nuts on.  When I mounted this barrel I found it is canted to the right about 1/16 to 1/8"!  DAMN!  There was no slop in the notch, and if anything, the FSB would rotate left during tightening.  If it was just 1/16", I could live with it, just having the sight a little to the right.  I also hate to rotate it too much and shim.

I sent them a email requesting a new barrel.  We will see how their customer service handles it... I will keep you posted.

Send it back. Then buy the 1/12 they have listed.

By the way, I tightened it with a barrel vise holding the barrel, as per Tech Manual.  I thought of a 1/12, but at this point return shipping, $40 extra, and shipping back to me runs it up to about $70 or $80 I don't have.  I worked three days last month, and only have 2 or 3 scheduled this month.  I went from 7 days every two weeks (29 hours a week) to one or two every two weeks.  When I quit my full time security contract up in the mountains for this job close to home, I made as much 3-4 8 hour shifts a week as I did working full time with 15 hr days.  After the first of the year, they whacked our budget to insane levels....The full time position I was told I would move into in June ceased to exist.  The heck of it is, that because I went to what was technically a part time, on call job, I can't even file for unemployment....

Call them,,,, I had a problem with one of their barrels and they were IMMEDIATLY offering to send me another. Well, I didn't get around to messing with the gun for another 2 mths and when I did finally call them back, they had NO ISSUES with making it right. As a matter of fact, they sent me another barrel and asked that when I get around to it that I ship the defective one back. (even sent a shipping lable so there was no cost to me)First Rate guy on the phone, both times I spoke with them. You wont be disappointed.

I was reading John Thomas' post in another thread.  I did this one with the barrel vise.  Maybe tomorrow I may break it down and hold the receiver and see what happens.

It's not JT's post, he chimed in helping the OP out as did myself and many others. I'll post a link.

ETA: The original thread where I called it out as a canted FSB is archived and I couldn't go back far enough to reach it. Either way it was gonna end up in JT's hands to fix it, here's the follow up Link

You're right, but it was JTs post in that thread.. Anyway, I pilled the barrel and reset it, clamping the receiver instead of the barrel.  It seemed to work.  I'll take it out this week and shoot it.  you wouldn't think it could make that much difference when there was no slop to begin with.  I have always used the clamp the barrel method before this.  We will see.  I notified them again and put AR15Sport.com on hold.

It's always been my experience that the FSB needs to canted to the right just a hair for a centered rear sight.

But you really won't know until you shoot it because the upper receiver forgings can be warped and/or machined off center also.

AR15SPort responded quickly and positively.  They had some suggestions about centering.  I told them of my reset and that I think it is centered enough now.  I will try to fire a few rounds at 25 yards to check later this week.  They really do seem like a good outfit and are totally willing to stand behind their product.  Sounds like they have pretty good QC the way he described their checks before it is shipped.  If it works out as well as I think, I may pick up another barrel just to have for a future build....maybe the elusive faux-prototype....

Bernie,  Glad you got it sorted or seem positive you do.

Hard today,  for anyone not to stand behind their products / labor as simply too much competition out there and one bad piece of publicity can easily ruin 100's of positive reports.  Most the time it's an over torque but Sarco for one seems to sell lots of barrels discounted due to mfg FSB screw up.  It's gonna happen from time to time due to many variables.  Best way is to test fire immediately but few small shops can do this. I've seen more canted FSB's on factory assembled rifles that slipped through quality control than a homebrewed assembly.  Many of these a re-tightening will remedy.  Of course they turn out 10X or should I say to the power of 10 what most homebrewer's will ever think of daily,  annually,  etc.
