I posted a while ago about a cracked upper from RTI.  They sent a replacement and it to was cracked but much less substantially.  I believe this should be repairable while I still wait to head back about getting another replacement.  The crack is in the typical place, just below the front of the ejection port on the bottom of the receiver.  I understand that if that section is cracked all of the way through that this is not possible.  However this crack is only have the width of that bar below the port. I checked the shelf created by the crack and its only 20 thousandths. I know that the 7075 is rather brittle and does not do well to bending but since this is such a  small amount in a relatively low stress area i think it can be tweaked in place and rewelded.  I have a gunsmith in town that said he would do it if i wanted.  What does the collective wisdom of the retro forum say?

Personally if it was me I'd get on the horn with RTI and raise cain.  Tell them you want a safe to shoot un-cracked upper.  Twice is not nice.

Sorry to hear they shafted you again.  I received an uncracked replacement upper from them, but the port door was totally trashed.

You'd think that at least one person there could sort parts properly, but I'll bet the packers have no idea what they're looking at.

Damn monkeys at RTI are worse than those that build the AK and FAL kits at Century Arms.

Damn, that sucks. I'm still waiting for my replacement upper. If they send me another cracked one I might just return ship it right up someone's ass. They are definitely on the DO NOT BUY FROM list from here on out.

Why would you even consider repairing/using a cracked upper?

Dont repair it. I bought a gunsmith special from them for $199 and had the broke reciever. Also the port door was bent. BCG and CH in great shape. Bet yours looks like this! I wouldn't buy from they them again. They charge before they ship and take like three weeks to ship! Dont try to call them you wont get a hold of them just a voicemail and no response from emailing them either. About three weeks from payment I got a tracking email. The port door was repairable. The FA and sight along with the BCG and CH were worth the price after I sold the cracked lower to someone building a dedicated 22LR lower out of it. They will sell your busted reciever as a Gunsmith special when they get it back ffrom you.

There is no way I would fix it even if I had the means. You paid for a good upper not a cracked one and that's what you should receive.

Glad I didn't order from them. I may get one of the LG kits before they're gone though.
