Man, I want to build a cutaway so bad Step 1. plug in dremel Step 2. buy stock in whatever company makes dremel bits A few beers and I'm half tempted to try it. You have to admit It would look cool hanging in a man cave or garage |
| How could the seller prove Colt made the cutaway? A gun plumber on Mdshooters.com had one for sale. But wouldn't sell it in MD as for the new gun laws . He made it at his smith school. All the cuts where in the same places. I would think if the upper was made by Colt it would have a teardrop FA. |

At $1,400 + for a cut away he's not losing money. That's his asking price. Nobody's buying at that price. Last ones I saw went for 650 and 850 from other dealers. Look at what he wants for regular uppers with barrels. He's pretty proud of that of stuff. $$$ |

I don't blame him for pricing it on the high end.
The way anything collectable from Colt's attracts deep-pockets dilettantes, he's got a good chance to find a buyer eventually. Somebody just paid about 5 or 6 times the going rate at an auction for a Colt's M1921 Thompson that was described as being connected to Bonnie and Clyde, despite the lack of any real provenance. Somebody's great grandfather claimed he was given it by an unknown LEO after a raid on a Barrow Gang hideout. That all, no other proof linking it to B and C. |

That all, no other proof linking it to B and C. the collectible stuff yes. but if you look at his other auctions, some are pretty common items $150/$175 for a take off carry handle http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=401968596 $900/$1000 for a 6920 upper http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=401968836 $700/$750 for a 9mm upper receiver (no barrel) http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=401969030 $700/$750 for a 14.5" socom barrel http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=404275465 and the list goes on and on. no biggie if he wants to get top dollar and doesn't care if they sell or not but being priced at twice what market is kinda makes people go

That cutaway is super rare. Especially the carbines, especially the 11.5 Commandos. But the problem for me is how to get a lower. I couldn't bring myself to massacre a new Nodak lower.......though it would be really cool. The Holy Grail of cutaways: http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj149/halpark/DSC00102_zpsf911de6a.jpg If memory serves the ATF still counts that receiver as a machine gun
