| I'm wanting to build an era accurate prototype rifle. This is being built on an 80% lower. I was wondering the legalities of stamping the proof marks and "property of US government". If legal I would like it to have the colt name and logo as well. Were there any rifle that were produced semi auto? I'm trying to keep this historically accurate. |

Brother, this has been hashed out a thousand times. I'm not saying that to imply that you shouldn't have asked, only to let you know that many others have had your concerns, and there is nothing to be concerned about.
I am waiting on my SBR stamp for my 607 build. My Form1 that I had to fill out for the short barrel had all the engraving/wording including "property of US govt: etc etc etc. This was done on an 80% lower. They have no problem with you doing this, as I had conversations with the examiner working my paperwork, and we talked about mine being a "clone". What are you wanting to know about there having been a semi auto or not..........either way, a semi auto is the best that you can do.........we're 26 years too late to do any full auto conversions. |
| There is an 80% forum I just saw. Haven't checked it out yet. Look under search in menu bar directly above this.. There are also some legality forums about 2/3 down the scroll menu also. Think Braceman if wanting to get someone to do it and check archives for others builds if doing yourself. Sorry no link. |

You could engrave "nuclear weapon" on it and it wouldn't make it legally true. The only issue you might have (outside of the commie states)is some nosy person at the range. On an 80% you might be subject to more scrutiny than a Nodakspud low text lower but if there's any concern you could put your info under the pistol grip area (also so no one tries to pass it in 30 years on Antiques Roadshow as the missing one of a kind prototype sporter. No harm engraving Auto or a faux sear pin at the same time. Like Cdenmark said, check out the 80% forum.
