After a long tedious journey of gathering all of the parts, I managed to get everything down to the gunsmith a few weeks ago. This morning, I picked up the newly built upper.

The barrel was shortened to 10.5", the bayonet lug removed, the gas port was opened up a little bit, and the handguards installed. I plan on throwing the upper on my existing SBR to see how it performs. I asked the gunsmith about upgrading the spring on the extractor. He said that with the gas port opened up a bit, it is cycling fine. Now, all I need is my lower to come in from Nodak Spud so I can get my Form 1 filled out and the stock installed. Right now, it may be a year before I can put this carbine together. At least everything will be built and ready to be snapped together.

No doubt the 607's are a labor of love. There is just no quick way of putting a "real" or "correct" one together. Your upper looks great! Do you have the adjustable stock ready when the lower comes in?

Looks good, but why did you go with a 10.5" barrel instead of 10" ? Just curious.

I wanted a 10", but the gunsmith, for some reason, cut it to 10.5". It is not worth it to have another 1/2" cut off.

Nicely done - I think the 607 is like the pinnacle of retro - harder in some ways than a 601.  Looks real good.

I know you already have the moderator - but perhaps John Thomas or braceman could make a new semi-slipover moderator?  I would imagine it would probably be easier and cheaper than having the barrel re-cut and threaded.

Just an idea.

IMHO, a 607 is almost too much a labor of love to not get exactly what you wanted.

I agree with Augee - I think I would have asked him to redo it at his expense. I mean, when you buy a blue car at the dealership, then show up to sign the papers and it's red...it would bug the crap out of me frankly. I'd mention it to him, consider buying another barrel, and keep that for a Mod ) Mk18 build...

It's a beauty but Augee is right.

It will start to chew on you late at night as you lie awake and think of all that extra barrel hanging over the end. The half inch will taunt you and mock you at every turn until you slip into the madness!

RBRD. Not even once!

First, let me say it's beautiful........you've got a gorgeous stock.
10.5 inch barrel.........looks longer to me. All the pics of originals have the lock washer nearly against the frt sght,(right at the journal) and looks to me like you might have a full inch between the frt sght and the washer.
(sorry to nit pick because you do have a good lookin 607. It would have been hard to not say something to the 'smith if you had told him 10 inches.)

9" from the face of the upper to the front of the FSB on my carbine. Pops must've measured from the upper face rather than the bolt face.

I have decided to have him cut it down another 1" and rethread.

Are "attaboys" in order now?

...or apologies for sowing the seeds of discontent?

Can't wait to see it together!
