So I got my gunbroker find 601 BCG today. Everything is original and appears to be in good shape. One thing I noticed is that the gas key screws have obviously been removed at one point and the original staking is no longer in place. I'm now wanting to re-tighten and stake the screws. The screws do look a little buggered so I think I will just replace them with a new pair. Any suggestions on where to get a pair? Also when I remove the screws will the gas key just fall off? Is it held in place with any kind of sealant? Whats the best way to be sure the key is sealed?

Thanks

Thanks for the link. So is sealant necessary or no?

Some of the folks in that link mention 55 to 100 in. lbs of torque? On those little screws? Seems like they'd snap right off.

Could have sworn it was torque to 40 in. lbs, stake, and done.

about half way down that thread it is stated that torque is 58-50 in lb.......I would imagine that is a type and he meant to type 48-50 in lb., because he then states that after torqueing/staking, that it should take 55-100 in lb to REMOVE the screws. Not that you or anyone else here would measure the torque neccessary to remove those screws, but if you should remember this..........a "normal" torque wrench IS NOT meant to be used to break bolts loose. (it will screw the accuracy of the wrench up)   The 55-100 in lb to remove would be an indicator of how much friction the stake is exerting on the screw head.

Ah I see, I guess I didn't read carefully enough.

Still, I went and checked my copy of the TM and it lists 35-40 in. lbs. Puts me at ease because that's what I recall torquing mine to.
