I am still thinking about buying an older SP-1 and maybe putting a scope on it for my old eyes.  Another thought I had was to instead try shooting the gun with the long range sight only.  Since the long range sight's peep is (I think) smaller, I would be able to better focus on the front sight.  My question is has anyone tried sighting in an SP-1 at close range with the long range peep?  If so, is there enough adjustment in the front sight to bring down the point of impact to sight the gun in at 50 or 100 yards?  Thanks!

Holes in sp1 rear sights are the same size.  They are drilled at different heights on the flats of the sight.

Have you considered swapping the A1 sight for an A2 to get the large hole (close range)/small hole (long range) combination?  I find A2 sights much easier to use and will be swapping the sights on all my A1s for A2 sights when my eyesight starts getting to the point I can't focus on both the target and the sights.

Thanks for the info guys.  So one can just swap out the A1 and A2 sights by changing the parts?  Is the small hole on the A2 sight smaller than the holes on the A1 sight?  I wonder if one could get a 50 or 100 yard zero with the A2 sight set on long range?

If one changes out the A1 rear sight for the A2 rear for the purpose of getting a smaller peep I wonder if one would need to also change out the front sight?  I.E., are the heights of the A1 and A2 sights the same

Do what the Marines do.  Zero at 36 yards using the large sight hole.  The ballistic arc of the round has it passing upward through the sight line at 36 yards.  The arc comes back down through the sight line at 300 meters.  Between 36 yards and 300 meters it will be within 2 & 1/2 inches of the sight line.

A1 and A2 FSBs (Front sight bases) are the same height.  It's the M4 FBSs that are marked "F" that are a different height.
