looks like a 1.

it's in the usual place where the C # Colt marking usually is.

I looked at the four in my toolbox and found a "2" plus two more with "6" (one of them damn-near sideways) and the fourth with just a faint imprint (possibly a "2" or "7") but I'm guessing they are numbers assigned to Colt subcontractors?  Possibly someone who worked for Colt back-in-the-day could shed some light but not sure where else the info could be found.

do they have the period after the number?  any idea how long they've been sitting in your box?

I thought it was mentioned that Colt bolt catches had a casting seam right down the middle (I can see a casting seam down the back side of boywonder777's example) but the ones that appear on GM & H&R do not.  What other variations are there?

No periods, just individual numbers...more gun show finds from the mid-90s (got a bag of 7, two were 601 and sold one of those/kept the other for my project and took the most beat up one to be Cerakoted FDE for my tacticool piston carbine for the something old, something new effect).
