It was the ammo. I went out shooting today. Loaded up a PMag with my 55 grain ammo. I used a very reliable carbine (653 clone). The exact same thing happened as when my 601 jammed up. I then switched out to some Privi Partizan, and my feeding problems were solved. I then used the exact set up I had going with my 601 when it jammed last week., No more jams with the Privi Partizan ammo.
Guys, I was shocked. I thought the Federal ammo was considered to be reliable. It is the 55 grain XM193. So, I started going back through some other boxes of the Federal XM193 to carefully look at the ammo. The photo below tells the story pretty well:

Thanks for posting the follow up. Please clarify... in the photo showing the dented ammo, is it dented like that out of the box? Or is photo that after feeding problems? If it's dented, new in the box, that almost looks like a shipping issue (not necessarily as shipped to you, but somewhere along the logistics trail). John Thomas |

You can't see it very well in the photo above, but a good number of the cartridges that I looked at have a lot of black kind of gunk around where the bullet is.
Live and learn. I am now going to start paying very close attention to when I load up a magazine. I usually just open a box, and start mindlessly feeding in cartridges with a Lula loader. |
