I've been given this 20 round magazine, along with some AR10 mags all of which have been sat on a shelf in an armoury since 1987 and are a bit dusty as a result.. This one has been left as nobody wanted a magazine with 'odd' green paint on it. This was the only one, the other 20s in there are all Colt 5.56. What's the history on it? Shooter or collector? Your thoughts please.

Nope! totally useless, shoot me an IM for my address and proper disposal |
| Thanks for the info, I should have said there is green paint on all four sides, this side showing in the photo having the least. Shade wise it's the same green as on the early stocks. I'm not that keen on green paint, a black rifle should be , well, black. Probably. |

I see the 1 in the circle. Does it have any witness holes? Also, the one with the green paint looks to have a mod. The small cut/mill for a AR180? My thinking too, looks like it has a AR18/180 cut. I have several mags identical to the OP's, .223 plates with AR18/180 cuts. Always wondered about that myself. I got them from my dad before he passed, always thought he made the cuts. Maybe someone did a huge batch back in the day when AR180's were coming on the commercial market, maybe in an effort to save some $$ on mags for 2 different platforms. |

That's an early one. I think they came out right after the waffle mags. It's worth more than the 5.56 marked ones from what I understand. I've got one and I'm always looking for more. http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss208/BigRix/Colt%20SP1/null_zps8b70d858.jpg Actually, the first variant after the waffles had an Armalite-marked floorplate. These were later, but still eminently retro! |

The old AR10 mags--are they "old" AR10 mags? As in the waffle mags for the original AR10s?? |

| Circle 1 was first exclusively Colt marked floorplate mag. They are pretty desireable or harder to find than the other post Armalite retro era sub contract 20 rd mags. They have brought decent coins for the last few years anyway. Condition is key. Shame it's been cut for AR-180. Kinda ruins collector value except as a filler. Heck, gives it character. Probably bought cheap surplus and modded. Green paint should easily come off without doing any damage. It should still function fine. I still use mine on occasion with never a FTF. Don't need any but also curious about the AR-10 mags. As in pics! |

Rather than bring down the wrath of the AR15 Gods, I posted the photos in the AR10 forum. The AR10 mags are original, the three I have have sat on an armoury shelf since 1987. as in, I'm the first person since then to pick them up. Two black, one 'silver', a bit grubby from storage. The rifle that they went with is long gone. So if it's ok with you all, I'll repost the pictures. Enjoy!
