Many of you retro-prototype builders like the idea of using an original Sudanese AR10 handguard on your AR15 prototype.  One alternative is the Armalite molded HG's sold by NodakSpud. See pic here   The idea of using a nice original AR10 HG on an AR15 is upsetting to some AR10 purists.  The answer is to create a reproduction HG.  Here is one that was made to have no vent holes, just like the REAL deal prototype HG.

Drat, I've been beaten.

That just looks amazing! What's it made from? I'm assuming fiberglass for the shells and some kind of phenolic for the front and back caps?

Need.

I'm pretty sure the original AR15 prototype handguards had holes on the top and bottom, just not the sides.

Very nice job. Looks real deal. I'm doing 1-piece carbine HGs for mine, and had planned on building them around a spare FF nut I have, but have pretty much decided to use an AR10 style slipring I got from my65pan some time ago. We'll see. I need to order the upper soon. Lower I think I will wait for NDS to get the proto one out.

I did not make the HG.  It came from an overseas business that specializes in reproducing rare gun junk.  Mostly leather stuff, plastic grips, and small metal parts.  There were just a few HG's produced and they were snarfed up by folks that needed them for restoration.

Well my first inclination after this comment was that you were just teasing us, but now I realize what you've given us with these pictures. Thank you. I love stuff like this.
