I have seen two or three gently used Colt 601's that have had a modification to the lower to prevent the selector from going FA.  In each case the rifle was sold for private use. And in each case at some point the selector block had been removed.   Could it be possible that this block was installed at the factory?  And would a Colt 601 that still had this block be permitted as a semi-auto and not be a class 3 gun?

Has anybody else seen one like this?

If it has the sear hole it is an MG.

The only ones with the selector block I've seen pics of were overseas. There are various different firearms regs throughout the world. Some countries don't allow civilian ownership of military caliber weapons. Some will allow a machine gun to be simply modified to a semi only state. Go figure.

Just a thought, but if that had been done prior to the GCA it may have then been acceptable to take the weapon off the NFA list. Sure ain't okay now. I'm not as familiar with the GCA and NFA as others, but it's a thought. They do stuff like this in other countries. Wish we could save M16's from Captain Crunch this way.

I think 601s are on the curio and relic list now.

I wish we could save everything from that damn chipper shredder.
