Question about a very early  all original 80s SP1.   If I wanted to change the it over and make it a carbine can I just change out the barrel to 16 inch and change out the stock to adjustable? or do I have to buy a whole new upper?

Change the bbl, gas tube, hand guards, butt stock and buffer tube.
