Never seen any USAF relevant Johnson rifle photos. Interesting. Always knew the USMC liked the Johnson rifle, can't remember though why the Marine Corp decided to adopt it while others did not. USMC use was limited, mainly early WWII, right?

The  USMC Parachute Battalion and the Raiders liked them because they could be broken down easier than the Garand and fit into a much shorter jump bag.  That, and Melvin Johnson being a reserve officer probably didn't hurt.

The MG was commonly used by Marines in '42.   Only one photo exists of a Johnson rifle being fielded on Guadalcanal, but at least we know at least one was there.
