Does anyone know if a A2 front sight post will work in a A1 upper?

My brother has a A1 upper (uses the 5 prong tool) and he wants to add a trijicon tritium front sight post.  It is a lot easier to find one for an A2 front sight.

They are interchangeable.  The threading and recess dimensions are not different between the earlier blasters, and the M16A2.

The sight tools are different, because the A1 has five notches, while the A2 has four.  I put a fiber-optic front sight in my RO727 build, and it helps you to aim smaller.  My BIL and nephew were able to hit a steel gong at 400yds with it this past weekend, using 55gr M193.

While we're on this topic, I haven't adjusted one ion awhile and have to work on getting a rusted one out. To back it out I need to go counterclockwise correct? Can't believe I'm asking this, but I do have CRS after all...

Yup, Clockwise lowers the post deeper into the FSB with a RH thread, Counter Clockwise backs it out until you can remove the whole post, with the detent and spring coming up out from their channel.

Thanks for the response.

What about the area sight?

Can he put the standard trijicon tritium rear on the A1 rear?

Thanks brother. Isn't it crazy how you can forget something like this? I the post wasn't frozen with rust I would not have asked. Much prefer the A1 post over the A2, but I'm getting older - there's a reason they changed it, likely at the behest of the USMC. You can bitch all you want, but those guys know rifles.

Morg,

I like you, prefer the A1 sight also.  I have numerous A2's, but always prefer the point on the A1 sight post.
