Been putting together AR's since the early 80's, remember going to the gun shows and would not even pick up a colt slick side upper to look at it, you could buy one back then for about $20 (kick me) pencil barrels all over, no had to get a H-bar and upper with FA and shell deflector, good thing is i still have alot of small parts from back then, bought my first kit from nesard and still have it, A1C7 carbine with H-bar and 3 position car stock, PWA lower, Aw... the good olde days.

colt 604 upper from tarheel, colt charging handle
colt cmpc barrel
colt bcg (chrome slick side carrier, park. bolt)
type "D" stock, no drain hole screw, wine clored buffer, no drain hole hand guards
colt "223" marked magazine
NDS partial fence lower (BTDT look)

Nice rifle. I remember the good ol' days too....bought 2 NIB Russian SKS rifles at local shop for $89 each, one a Tula the other Izzy. Bought a Polytech AK for $219 and traded it for a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag.

If I had it to do again, woulda bought 30 pencil barrels and squirrelled them away.

Nice Rifle Shark. I just saw yours. I really want to build another although that will be my second retro and you've obviously done quite a few.

Nice rifle OP.  Hope it shoots great.  604's are definately my favorites.  Got all the mixings for one more excellent condition except lower.  Don't have 1.5K on the last one I built.  Barrel is just getting broke in.  Love to shoot it for coins.  Surprises more than it doesn't.

Thanks for the comments, wish the upper was in just a little better shape, wanted to do a battlefield look and that upper sure fit the bill (plus some), shoots great, put it together and put the rear sight in the middle, standing up free hand (in the rain) put 7 shots in a 6"x8" square @40 yards.
