I have this thing about the 652.  Here is about the best I am going to get.  This is a mish-mash of parts that I have been tinkering around with for some time.  This is purely a fun gun for plinking.  SP1 lower, SP1 carbine upper that I hooked up to a small hole 604.  Balls on accurate.  Put in a nice light 3 pound trigger.  And then a rifle buffer system.  Easy to shoot, virtually no recoil, handy little gun.  I can't make it any simpler than this.  The furniture are some maroon / brown stuff that I gathered and they never really had a home, so, I thought it might look dandy on this one.  That big button on the back is a thoroughly modern piece to remove the take down pin.  That big lower / small upper pin bolts the upper to the lower super tight.  No wiggle at all.  I slap on one of those cleaning links, and the chrome bore / chamber cleans up quick after a shoot.  No SP1 harm was done, so, when the time comes, I can put back to original the rifle and the carbine with all parts bagged and tagged.  I hope

If I had it all over to do again, I would have bought a late model SP1 rifle and a SP1 carbine upper and killed the RBRD dead in its tracks.  It is so hard to go wrong with that combination.  But then, I guess I would have lost out on a lot of fun and knowledge too.

Okay folks, that just about ends my builds.  Pics posted, all function tests passed, all shoot well enough.  I am done.  Cured.  RBRD is in the rear view.  Hey, when is NDS coming out with their new prototype upper and lower

Very nice!

That is the last Retro I want to build, well the one with forward assist anyway so I guess a 651 is what I want. Will be a little while before I get around to doing it though.

Looking good. You must really love the 652 to put the brown parts on there!

The brown stuff came last.  I finally got comfortable building and shooting a Franken-gun.
The stock is a Type B that was stripped when I bought it off the EE.  I had to clean it up pretty
good.  It is not perfectly correct for any build.  So, instead of storing them for use later,
I decided to use them.  This is such a fun little carbine
because I got to use parts that I had that didn't really belong anywhere else or weren't being used.

It was a nice change to build a retro without worrying about anything being correct.

+1 - Good stuff!  and cured of RBRD?  I think not.  In remission - maybe!

A "brown" set of 607ish style carbine length triangle HG would look pretty cool on that thing too.

Ya know, I have been thinking about that.  I have seen threads on some of the other forums where people have used Rit-Dye to achieve some pretty neat colors and designs.  It seeps into the plastic, so there is no paint to chip off.  It appears to only work from light to dark color, so I was thinking about getting some beige CAR handguards and seeing if I could work with that.

But, I agree a triangle set would be the bee's knee's.  Especially with one of those endcaps.  Very early retro. But I have only seen the triangle handguards in black.  I don't think Rit-Dye would work on that, the black triangle handguards would probably need paint..  Hmmmm, the more I think about it, this is sounding like a job for John Thomas.
