Ok, well, a lot of help. . .

A while back, I managed to snag an 870 Mk.1 Bayo lug/shroud.
Since then, I've been in search of a reasonably proper 870 of the Vietnam era.
Most of what I find is new, the few that I find that are 60's vintage tend to come with the fancy textured stocks/fore ends, and 28" or 30" barrels.

Today, searching around gunbroker, I came across two 870 Police models, with 20" barrels.
The date codes on the barrels seem to indicate 1966 and 1968 (or 1922/24, 1995/97 both of which seem unlikely)

They're not in great shape, but that holds some interest for me.

Sadly, the guy won't ship to CA, which is where I am.  Now, the guns are in no way illegal here, he says there's just more paperwork to deal with when sending to CA.  TBH, I have never sold a gun to another state, so I really don't know what's involved from the seller's end, let alone selling into CA.

So, the help I was looking for here, was a middle man.  Someone who would be willing to buy one of the guys for me, and then send it out to me, in California.

I figure this is a long shot, and if no one wants to assist, I totally understand, I don't know that I would either if I were in that position.

If nothing else, maybe someone else around here can snag one or both and turn them into nice Mk.1's.

Thanks
-Nick

Congratulations on snagging the shroud. What you are asking someone to do in order to help you could be construed as a 'straw purchase'. Big time trouble for both of you. Don't do it. Now, 870 Police shotguns are not rare. Put a want to buy ad in the Equipment Exchange and something should turn up.

Unless his transfer to you goes through an FFL as well.  The seller won't transfer to CA, but maybe someone in another state will.  "Other" state resident buys shotgun, does FFL stuff from seller 1.  Buyer in "other" state then transferrs it to buyer in CA through an FFL abiding by all laws.  Seems fine to me.

I'm no expert, though.

As long as FFLs are involved and the gun is legal in CA, it should be good to go.  If someone were to order the gun, have it transferred through their FFL, then shipped it to an FFL in CA where OP can have it legally transferred to them its not a straw purchase.. It would be a no no if OP had the gun mailed directly to them from the "middle man" but as long as the middle man sends the firearm to an FFL in CA for OP to pick it up, it is fine.
