According to the guide the carrier i just purchased is transitional, i guess whatever that means.
It appears to be a stainless fwd assist cut carrier that is stamped "C" and blued bolt. I was under the impression that the chrome(stainless) carriers were unmarked? True or false or both? Straighten me out. |

We really need pics to verify, otherwise it's just conjecture. I will tell you early Colt carriers did not have the C stamp - by the time they were marked like that, they weren't stainless CHromed. Could it be a polished, or plated, later carrier. Like I said, pics.
DOH - I meant Chromed. I'm TIRED.

| They are chromed not stainless and I believe if you have a chrome C marked carrier it has been chromed by someone else besides Colt. Early Colt chrome BCG predeeds C stamped Colt parts. Correct bolt should be P or MP marked also. Hope you didn't pay too much. Do see them pop up that way from time to time. An un-marked serrated for FA Colt chrome carrier does have value. As stated pics would help. Most transition pieces have a combination of parkerized and chrome parts. |

C markings came about around 68 during the XM16E1 timeframe.
you will find unmarked chrome slickside (w/ full round and 3/4 round gas keys) parkerized slickside (with parked and chrome gas keys) aka transitional chrome w/ forward serrations parkerized w/ forward assist serrations w/ large firing pin retaining pin hole on the right side then they started marking them with a C so you will find parkerized w/ forward assist serrations w/ large firing pin retaining pin hole on the right side marked and unmarked. these were used on the XM16E1. |

$131 shipped. BCG with used CH.
Carrier has large fprp hole and i can't remember the markings on bolt right now but it was mp or mpc.( don't have it in front of me) I can try to get pics tonight or tomorrow when i get home. I'd have to email or text them to someone. |
| Wondering if it's just a well worn XM BCG. Don't usually see them with all the parkerizing missing though. Sounds like you did alright. Do have some well used units but they still run fine. Is bolt chrome or parkerized hence your transition description. MP parkerized would be right on the XM carrier more than likely. Those were some mix match parts years. |
| SOrry guys, I KNOW they aren't stainless - jeez I'm whupped. Anyway, I'm thinking someone polished it or had it plated, nickel or chrome. Still like to see pics, but for $131 it's pretty hard to go wrong if it's Colt. I've seen C marked BC's that definitely weren't Colt too - unfortunately they don't require a license for stamps. Sounds like it's a modified Colt though. |

The more i look at this thing the more it looks to be NP3 coated.
There is some dark spots where there is a machining flaw or a pit and it is either dark or carboned up. Bolt is mpc marked with "c" marked extractor and orange insert(which I've never seen) in extractor spring. Markings look very similiar to another 2 "C" marked carriers i have in front of me. I don't know how to post pics anyhow. I think i'll replace a semi carrier in my beater gun with this and just use the heck out of it. I was looking for something to slow it down(cycle rate) a bit anyway. |
