| Well I got a sp1 today, price was to good to pass up. Ser # 128xxx. Triangular handgaurds, trapdoor stock. Chrome lined barrel. Everything is original and stamped with the C then M. No foward assist and no shell deflector.slight difference in lower and upper color, but from what I read that's normal. it's in fine shape, so $ 200.00 was worth it I guess even though I'm into retro,lol. Pics will be up later. |

Congrats to you but after you paid him the money you should have beat him with his own arms about the face and head while screaming, "it's not old it's RETRO! and oh, you sold it for a grand too cheap!" (well maybe, pending pics)

OP sounds like someone did you right. Mis-match color should be correct, welcome to retroland and look forward to seeing the pics. Shows there still some deals to be had. $200 is a steal but $500-600 isn't out of the question especially if a little Bubba'd. Think many are watching too much GB, have govt jobs or both. Remember when a govt job paid half of what the same non govt job would pay, only needed one person to do it not three and the budget was trying to be balanced not $30-40 trillion in debt if one counts govt pensions.
Unless a carbine or low number I wouldn't bite for more than $600 personally but for $200 it could be butchered and I'd fix it pretty darn quick. Not as quick at I'd hand over the coins but within the hour of getting it home and then I'd sell it for as much as I could get more than likely. It's also what many retroheads do, buy surplus govt junk cheap and sell it high and a SP-1 isn't surplus junk. Local very large gunshop will only pay $500 max regardless of serial for a SP-1 and they buy a few every year and usually sell them around $1K. Granted they have lots of overhead. Many inherit guns, don't want them and sell them to the gunshops, who in turn will never pay 50% of appraised value unless an individual employee wants it (cash in the parking lot) or it's very collectible, which most SP-1's aren't. Retroland has really caused some obscene pricing but good for the seller's. Hope it doesn't happen to AR's but I've watched my kinda rare shotgun collection depreciate rather drastically in the last 15 years. If I knew I'd have sold them then and bought them back today. |
| All it came with was the sling and first generation aimpoint mounted on a weird mount on carry handle. Nope not butchered at all. Looked at bolt, BC, trigger,and hammer. They all have the right marks. The guy bought it brand new and shot maybe 60 rounds through it he says and put it up. Inside bore looks brand new, but the chrome lined helps keep it looking good I would guess. I'll show you guy pics of it when I get off work. I'm not sure if I'll keep it, thinking bout making some money, really wanted that .308 ar. |

Dude, you can't see it, but I'm sitting here just shaking my head. That's an unreal deal. The rifle appears to be in great condition. If the internals are as nice as the outside, you are one lucky cuss.
Honestly, in the current market, you paid maybe 20-25% of its market value. Basic ARs aren't selling very high right now, but real Colts always carry a bit of a premium. Soak it up––that may be the best deal you ever get on a rifle (unless someone just gives you one)! Now go shoot the thing! |

its not totally out of the question that you couldn't turn that into the .308 you want
by trading or selling, not by converting. i've seen a ton of DPMS LR308's that retail for less than that rifle would retail for. but you'll never,ever get another a s nice,as cheap. keep it and choot it. |
| That is a nice SP1. The question is would you be able to replace what you have in your hands later? I think you could but the cost would be at least 5x's what you just paid. I do not see the DPMS ever giving you that type of return. Keep your eye out and a lr308 will pop it's head. Again great score. |

When you said an old Aimpoint, I figured, like, an Aimpoint 1000 or something.
A functional Comp M, even in rough shape, is probably worth what you paid for the damned rifle! You're really starting to annoy me!

Thanks for posting pics. Very nice rifle. Appears like you have done better than the wife when purchasing firearms. Should be able to deal for that .308 possibly with a few coins and possibly not if you play your hand correctly.
Wife has bought 3 Browning 22LR rifles one Belgium SA-22, one Jap SA-22 and a BL-22 and has less than $600 in all three. The Belgium FN came in a leather Browning rifle case with two shoeboxes full of CCI ammo for $200. Seller never cleaned it and it would misfire every 5-6 rds. Took me an hour to clean it and never a FTF since. Not a scratch on it either. The other two are in excellent condition also. As stated earlier these things weren't very expensive 30 years ago and some are happy to get their initial coins back or even trade for what they now want. I'd definately pay $500-600 for that SP-1 looking at pics if I actually wanted one but I'd just strip it to parts and make some walk around coins. I'm guessing market in NC is similar to VA and they just aren't bringing the coins like other geographical areas. Pre-ban lower to a commie state that allows Colt for more than $500 easy, $500 for the upper if really only 60 rds and a minimum of $100 for the mount. That's a low tier 308 all day long. For $200 and it's condition it may be worth holding on to and see what our current socialist's are gonna do in November and as previous poster said if it's Colt it will shoot .556 or .223 all day and all night. Think I'd blast it to see how good it shoots and as also stated it's very hard to find the barrel alone in most any condition for less than $200 unless in the loop. |
