Not sure where yours came from, but it definitely fits the bill for 000004. Do you remember where you got it, or is it one of those 'mystery parts'?
ETA: Duh, just read OP again, you don't know where you got it. I say use it for a prototype build. This could be one of those "build a rifle around one part" kind of situations..... |

Yeah, send it to me - I'll swap you for a standard one - I need a reason to start another build

It doesn't look like a real prototype catch to me. If it were, it'd be shorter. The early mags were cut to latch on a corner so, the catch wasn't as long.
Still, it looks the part doesn't it? I'd use it. |
| I was looking at the mag catch a little closer today. it has an odd thread pattern on it. It also has a very tiny "2" stamped on the side as well as another mark that I can't quite make out. Maybe I should take a pic or two and send it to Jerrell and see if it is his handiwork. As far as the size and shape, it looks to be pretty much the same as a regular mag catch. |

If it were made by Jerrell,It would probably have an "H" on it.He does this so people can tell the difference from original parts. |

All, I emailed Jerrell. He is doing well, I am happy to report. He was kind enough to email me back and report that this was not one of his reproductions. He could not identify it specifically. I honestly thought this was going to be like one of those Sendra ejection port covers. Who knows, maybe it is. But here are the other two photos showing the unusual threads and the numbers on the side of the catch. I put it under a magnifying glass and it looked a bit like a roman numeral one with two small dots under it. I dunno what it is. Thanks for any help you can give. If the folks on this board don't know, I don't know who will. http://imageshack.us/a/img846/8505/side2n.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img41/2973/side1d.jpg i've seen the roman numerals with dots on new production bolt catches. i got them with some parts so i don't know who made it. |

here's my bolt catch with the H and 3 dots. sorry for the washed out pics but i couldn't capture it without a lot of flash. http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k517/s0b3/DSC04471.jpg Thats a modern Colt bolt catch Lionel. |

| I'm not an expert on who the sub-contractors are for Colt now-a-days but I've disassembled enough modern Colts to know that is the bolt catch they use. Not sure what parts they are currently making in house either. I'm sure many of the smaller parts are sub'd out. |
