Wondering how much play is acceptable between the upper & lower before it becomes a issue with precision, and or, safety.
It's probably nothing but one of the 603s has some considerable wobble in the vertical & horizontal plane, now it could be that it's a stripped upper or I'm spoiled on the tight fit of NDS receivers. The lower is a completed NDS-16A1, the upper has LM forge code that JT recently refinished (outstanding job!) The upper was ear marked for a 80% build, but I've concerns about using it. One option I've read about was the use of Accu wedge & a very small O-Ring wrapped around the front lug to tighten the fit between upper & lower, has anyone used this as a fix & did it work? (Off topic, Thanks to all who recommended books to read, it's really helped keep the mind occupied, as well as, being incredible to read.) |
| Accu wedge used to come standard on a couple different rifle models (CDNN $1.99). The real stuff Govt M-16's usually wabble. Many or most aftermarket milspec's usually don't. Think out of ten I have one that will move slightly and can see a little daylight between two surfaces. Don't think it ever really effected our military from qualifying. Not really a big deal in my opinion but could possibly become annoying. May effect shooting, as the top tier mfg's always advertise tight fitment tolerances but to me it's more important inside than out and they either shoot excellent or they don't. If paying $2K or more it better. |
| Any play between upper and lower just bugs me. I have tried accu-wedges, and the little expanding thing that replaces the take down pin to snug it up (I think it is a JP Enterprises device?). I wasn't wild about any of those. I have found the tightest fit I get in the retro gear is when I have a Colt upper seated on a NoDak lower. Always tight as a drum. Also, even though it is ugly, the large hole screw type pivot pin on the Colt SP1 really tightens it down and removes any play, at least on my carbine and rifle that are sp1s. |
