| The one's I see are usually marked with a C in a circle and sometimes a number in a circle but I don't think Colt started marking their parts until H&R and GM came in off the bench. Would think M1sniper has the scoop on the early Colt parts which would have been the only player in the game for the early stuff and the markings would have just been from a specific govt contractor. Lot of H&R parts have numbers also. |

I found an archive post from '06 with the info about early "2" marked hammers being early M16A1, up to serial number 800,000.
http://3gn.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=280543 The "2" on my hammer looks like a forge mark, the "SWTD" looks like a stamp. Just not sure what the "SWTD" mark is about. |
| Again thanks Wpnsman for gathering intell. Didn't know Colt supplied FCG parts to H&R and GM but it really makes sense as these parts were manufactured by govt contractors same as today. Sure they had more small parts than barrels anyway. Haven't been able to find anything on OP letter stamping but would think govt contract if M-16. Sounds like a nice piece. FA parts scare me and I can still source small pin Colt semi parts pretty reasonable. |
