I want to build one of these, the upper looks like a class three deal SBR right ? What kind of budget should I expect for one ?

It's going to depend on a lot of stuff. Semi auto or full auto will be the biggie, then how much do you want to spend? The sky can be the limit with some of these kind of builds. Also, do you have the skills necessary to do the stock fitting and such?

There are a couple of resources for replica parts, This would be a good place to start.

Semi auto, and there's this site called Total Silence for the stock which they fabricate and sell for about 395.00. Oops I see you know about it also.LOL

Stock and the 10" lightweight barrel will be the expensive and tough to find parts. If you're going to run a faux moderator, there's a guy here that makes them. All other parts are easy to find and regular price. Budget yourself a good $600 over what you'd spend for an M16A1 build, then the money for your SBR tax stamp and you'd be about right.

Look here  for your lower receiver and possibly your upper and here for better pics and info about specific components and nuances of the gun you're interested in.

Meantime I'll try and find you a link to where to get the moderator.

Well, the thread has been archived, but you might get hold of member 45Bravo   [email protected]  to see if he has any left. It's the straight moderator without the vents.

Ballpark about $1200-$1500 I think. Maybe I am way off the mark here, but thats what I recall.

I want the stock and maybe the shorter grip, my question is could I use an 11.5 inch barreled upper and have a 5.5 inch flash suppressor permently installed It would look pretty close and it would still be legal or would it still need a tax stamp ?

11.5 with a permanent 5.5 would mee the requirements, so no tax stamp. The shortened grip you can make yourself. A benchvise and sawzall (or hacksaw) and some sandpaper is all it takes, I've done a couple that way with good results. Looks cleaner if you cut directly across the checkering.

I still think the best way to get a 607 look without all the legal issues is to use a mid length gas system on a 16" barrel with a slipover

here's an old pic of my 6.8spc version before it was finished

for a carbine gas system you'll end up with a version that looks like this one

Did you ever fire the 6.8 with that stock? I've been wondering how it does against the additional recoil. Always seemed like a fragile latch system to me.

Mark, since I built the rifle so I could shoot it in my incredibly short sighted home state of NJ, and we mere citizens here can't be trusted to have such an evil thing as a collapsible stock on our rifles, it was built using a standard rifle length receiver extension and is of a fixed length. The latching system is inoperable on my particular stock...it's still there, it just doesn't actually do anything except for keeping the stock from rotating on the extension.

OP: I see you live in FL.  No reason to not make an SBR.  All things considered it's just another $200.  Get your lower now, submit your paperwork, and by the time you have all your parts gathered, you should have your approved Form 1 back.

I think one of the reasons that XM177E2 clones are so popular is they look most like the real thing with a 16" overall.  The 10.5" guns didn't show any barrel between the muzzle device and sight base, so clones that are 16" look off.

The reason is I'm trying to plan it without breaking the bank, Class 3 = Trust Fee, Tax Stamp, Engraved Lower and wait time. DPMS 11.5 upper, 5.5 flash hider permently welded, No dak Spud lower, Stock and Triangular guard maybe 1100.00.

Yep, that's mainly why I'd like to build one!

For the stocks that I produced, I did have one get returned because the customer complained of a failed locking system. He was doing multiple beta mag dumps on his M16 though. For him I heat treated the locking tube and I seem to recall that fixed the problem. I still would not recommend practicing your rifle buttstroke technique with a 607 stock though!

WA-Tom used to own TSI which is now owned by Edwin (I don't think he posts here).  TSI/Edwin still makes/sells them here:
